Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Serious question, I have 32 years here and of retirement age. Is there any way I can ask for severance? Had enough of this place

You might want to wait until your investments recover from the coming recession.

do as little work as possible / quiet quit. COMPLETELY change your personality to be the most minimally working person on the team. Don't offer any suggestions or ideas, just do whatever the boss says, but as half-assed as you possibly can. If you think about it, that's better than constantly having to argue against stupid ideas anyways, right?

Eventually, your number will come up and you will get laid off.

I wouldn't wait around if you can afford to retire. House paid off and healthy retirement account? why waste life waiting for something that may not happen?

I know someone that was in this same situation (worked for a different company) and worked many years longer than he planned into early 70's waiting on a package (got it finally) when financially could have retired at 60 and been more than fine.

As soon as my numbers check out, I'm done! Hopefully sometime between 55-60. Paid off our house in early 40s and been maxing out retirement accounts for many years.

OP - i feel you, but get in line...

35 years and been asking every time there have been layoffs (really big ones, like 10,000+ people in the old days) since I hit the 10 year mark 25 years ago. (when there were actual lists) Declined every time.

Manager said: "No, not you"

So I tried slacking off to be a poor performer, but even that didn't work. (apparently even my worst is better than others) ((sigh))

As others have said, it is FAR TOO EXPENSIVE at this point to lay off those with decades of service compared to those with fewer years. (also they don't know as much about how to work this h=ll hol=) Expenses are driving top of the house now. Cheaper (and easier) to make yoy miserable so you leave for "free".

I know ONE person with 40 years (B4) who got the Golden Package last fall when the role was eliminated as a result of the combining of Small Biz with Biz Banking. The few others I know of had <10 years.

You can "hope" for a role elimination, but layoffs are small-scale and isolated these days.

I finally decided life is too short and gave up on any package.

Handed in my notice when bonus paid Feb 28.

I really feel for you. It is so horrible here now (and so many of us have been thru horrible times here, but just when you think it cannot gets worse and the new manager cannot possibly be any more monstruous, it is!!)

You have to decide for yourself if that paycheck and benefits are still "worth" it.

Just make sure you have your savings and finances in order. (Receiving that "last" paycheck is jarring. But am still happy with my decision.)

Wishing you peace and happiness.

1st to answer your question. Yes, you can ask. Here's how I did it,

ME: Enjoyed my time here but it's time I retire. May i be put on the list for a severance please? It would be a great way to show your appreciation for me helping you get that Band 3 promotion. I enjoyed working with you all those nights and weekends. You really deserved it.

Manager : No, if there is a list, I will volunteer as well, ive been ready to retire. Thank you for all your help. I will make you a cake on your last day.

I sympathize with you op. I am in a similar situation. My manager has also declined me. I periodically call the Benefits Education & Planning Center (EY Navigate) to ask if there are any new corporate early retirement incentives. No such luck yet

The bank is not that generous.

OP - You can ask but do not expect it. Instead, other people with less than 15 years will be targeted. Now, if you are in a group that is going to be phased out then you may have a chance. Again, do not expect it as they will redeploy you to another group. This is the game that is in corporate play to save money for the company. I have 25 years so I know exactly how you feel. Waiting to see what this year plays out for BOA. Is Brian retiring? Will Trump sign another executive order restricting bank operations to lose money? You know that he has a thing for Brian. You have better odds at just retiring and be happy without the severance. I'm telling myself the same thing as I am working with a financial planner outside of BOA. Hope the best for all of us in this situation.
