Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What is the end game for AT&T?

What is the 3+ year forecast?

Waves of layoffs, RTO, Hubs, relocations, offshoring, etc. what is the business plan moving forward? Real business growth is hard to come by, we are managing to boost our stock price by cost reduction, not by organic growth or innovation.

When do we hit rock bottom and start to turns things around? What will AT&T look like in 5 years? Stankey/BoD will be gone by then. Just Dallas, Atlanta, WA, NJ, less than 80k FTE? Fiber and Mobility company? TDM?

What does the company look like after it comes thru this crucible?

There is a wave of efficiency sweeping across the country now. Just like Twitter survived in half it's workforce, so will we.

OP here.

So, the consensus seems to be that a resurgence after we get to their headcount target is not realistic. The financials will still be so poor. The market is unforgiving. The business landscape has changed. Copper is dead. Fiber and mobility are mature models with razor thin margins. Our reputation has taken a hit with network outages and cyber breaches. Stankey is cleaning house in order to sell it and run.

the vps and ceos want to be the only employees and have nothing but contractors. save legal expenses and they can do nothing but design contracts all day along with service delivery targets.

this was always the end game and looks like it is coming to reality.

“ I am a great employee with a history of Exceeds/Excels ratings.”

So was I and won an award in Jan 2024 for my accomplishments in 2023. Then I got a new boss June 2024 who is a Stank company man and I was shown the door due to surplus on 2/6/25.

Sold. DOGE will soon find if not already the bailout given a few years back to deliver fiber to rural areas. None of it happened. Fiber / wireless will be sold to highest bidder. Would be shocked if they kept the brand name.

T will be history in 5 years. Like the poster below stated, they will chop this place up (piecemeal) and sell it for pennies on the dollar.

"when I hired on HR told me if I do well, obey the work rules and COBC, at&t would be a cradle to grave job, relatively speaking."

Did you get this in writing? Have you had your eyes closed during the last decade?

It's not fair to me and my fellow workers at T. We've got 15-20 years in, why should we be forced out? This is no joke, when I hired on HR told me if I do well, obey the work rules and COBC, at&t would be a cradle to grave job, relatively speaking. I will not leave of my own free will, I've worked too hard and given so much. Hopefully you will agree with me. I am a great employee with a history of Exceeds/Excels ratings.

Private equity breakup. All the regulated assets will be dumped into a zombie company and exist on government subsidy. The wireless and unregulated fiber network will be separated and possibly sold off to competitors. The unions will be cut out completely and the total number of people employed afterwards will be a fraction of our current headcount. Look for some of our current board members and C-suite execs to be given lucrative consulting positions and ownership interest with the equity groups that do the hatchet work (It may take a coalition of PE groups to get the funding). There is no way Wall Street will allow the company to be run this poorly for another 5 years.

Don’t care. Won’t be here. If you were smart, you’d hit the exit also or pull the rip cord and take retirement (before they do away with the benefit).

Once the fiber is all placed and satellites are up and running, they won't need most of us. This place will run lean and mean. It is coming for all of us. I have about 25 years and need 5 or so more. But I don't think I will get there. With that being said, if you have 15 years or less here at ATT you may want to take this time to retool yourself for your next job while you have the time. This has been told to us for years so it is not like anyone should feel blindsided by a layoff.
