To OP: You should consider checking into Model e. You'll be happier with better leadership ranks and more challenging work.
I have never in seen more micro-managers in my whole career. Talk about skip levels. My goodness. Let your supervisors do their job and stay the he-l out of the way. If they still want to get involved in engineering they should take a demotion. They signed up for the LL+ role...that kinda means you have let someone else take the reigns. When levels are skipped and you get into people's grill that looks really bad. Don't be surprised when people move on, unless that's the reason for the constipating skip levels. Mostly LL+ stand in the way and do nothing but insert confusion and panic because some people actually (however unjustified) actually panic when they get involved. Stay away.
