My group is so undermanned I know they are gonna tell us to continue working due to the needs of the business.
We can't keep up with the calls we get now with 4 people so what in the he-l they are gonna do with half the people. Verizon is finally going to feel the pain this time as customers get fed up with our customer service and restoration times for being understaffed in a customer NOC

I got an hour of training when I joined vz. I gave my replacement two hours. Good luck fella.

For some it will be coast time through the end of the year, but for some with personal integrity and values, it will be business as usual until their final day in role. As one of the latter, my heart hurts for our loyal customers. I have invested so many years at Verizon caring for our business customers that I know how to get things done - the process is rarely easy but after years of experience, I know who to contact in which department to resolve an issue before it becomes a big problem. The HUGE amount of knowledge and experience leaving the business is going to badly impact our business customers and eventually their businesses.

Ah come on man, what could they possibly do to you if you didn't show up to work? Fire you? Big deal! You already got a "do not rehire" in your personnel file. What's the one question a perspective employer will legally ask Verizon about you? Would you rehire? Yes or no!

HR encourages all rif affected employees to use the time through 12/30/2022 to firm up their resume, apply for jobs internal and external to Verizon. If you do not plan to continue working after 12/31, consider this time as recreational.

All rif'd employees can go home, no work is expected from them through 12/30. They must return COU, laptop, and any other VZ owned equipment by 12/30 or sooner.

I take it you’re not the sharpest crayon in the box @qei.

In your experience, is this lame duck period basically a coast session for the employee? Or do they still need to put in hard work?

Everyone that I know of in my org is last day 12/30 off payroll 12/31.
Some entire teams (in product, maybe in other areas) were let go, so I'm not sure if they are the same or not. I'm assuming they are.
