Think about if your manager is vindictive or is a micro manager stuck in the 1980's. If you've offended them in some way keep it in mind because all they have to say are the words time theft and HR or CM can request reports to view how long you're in the office and when you go home. Don't trust other people on your team to vouch for you either when the manager is hunting for some misalignment no matter how small.
Many people including myself wonder what their managers are doing and how they have their jobs when they know so little. Well, what they're doing with their time is watching you. You could be the most helpful person on your team, work to better your department, have impeccable numbers, showcase a brand of excellence, but if your manager is jealous or is on the warpath none of that will matter. They'll put in the request to watch your every move, talk about flexibility.
