Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What's the point of Leadership meetings?

We had one on Wed - nobody asked a question. People used to ask. We'd always get a canned aswer, we'd always get a BS anwer, we'd get patronizing corporate speak, PR lines, or they would just not aswer questions. What's the point?

Sorry but I don't attend these meetings. I don't have time for BuIIshlt. I have to find me another job.

No more questions because people are sick of the BS answers and no longer five a damn.

Back in 2019/2020 the Upstream Presidents held very open and candid conversations. People talk about how good those AMA chats were. Refreshingly different, but they lost their handlers and went back into their caves to avoid talking to their people right after the layoffs. Now they are just puppets.

There are not leaders anymore.

Just to much to lose for the low CL25 sup and up. Zoom calls, recycled power points , spreadsheets , recycled PDS moments , disengaged sups that let your coworkers run wild. You really only have 2 choices, leave or choke this all down with 40 bill in profit the last 6 months. Everyone I know is just kicking the can in one way or the other. Should have been an engineer at the end of the day.

The problem is the only one who can change the policies is so high up in the org chart that you never hear from them. Even VPs have no power. Sad really that authority is held so high that the deciders are oblivious to how bad it really is. Decision making needs to be pushed down or they need to get out of their ivory tower and LISTEN to the workers not just a filtered everything is awesome message.

They have to have these sessions to satisfy some KPI I’m sure AND to be able to say “we have open communication”.
Although none would admit it, I’m sure all of the “leaders” would rather not even have these sessions..

So they can check the “keep open communication and improve transparency” box

It’s in the manager’s contract. They have to spew the company BS at least once a quarter to get their bonuses. Can you say “We are ExxonMobil? Sure, I knew you could.”

The GP forum this week was pretty much a parallel reality also. The questions on slido unrelated to the 20 slides about how exciting it is to be working in projects beforehand. As you say, it's valueless.

I once asked why our dental coverages never goes up and they told me that it's meeting industry standards. But it has not moved in decades while prices tripled. And they were just "not sure why you are asking, you should not be asking, it's meeting industry averages, you should know that, be happy that you have this. I am paraphrasing but this is what they were thinkng while they weaved their sneaky corporate speak response.
