Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Outstanding and above - Anyone thinking about leaving

I have been in the OPD bucket for a good while now but I still see the writing on the wall that one day my time will come. Better to leave whilst I am ahead. Anybody else with this PA got the same thinking?

High performer- Currently watching myself. Things will not change here and it's obvious ExxonMobil does not care about their employees. At this rate, I'll probably have a heart attack and die before 40 (mid 30s now). Only then would they give me a decent raise, maybe. Guess I'd put a nice picture of the campus inside my casket with my .002% raise, coming off a record high 145 billion quarter profit.

THINGS WILL NOT CHANGE AND THINGS WILL NOT GET BETTER SOON.

I left 3 months ago acknowledging this and it was the best decision.

Why are such smart people so stupid or can’t they face reality.

Anyone under 40-45 should change careers. The pension is not worth it even if it is around when you hit 55 which is doubtful.

80% of you are fodder for the top 20% which keep feeding you the company line and talking points. Look at all the a**holes on LinkedIn sucking up.

Have some courage and better your life. It’s not worth suffering in silence and accepting this as you fate.

Now that's good thinking. That's why you're outstanding or above. Get out when you feel like, not when they throw you out the door.

Might be a good idea to see how HCL/Infosys rewards top performers if you’re an EMIT employee, because chances are high that if you don’t leave on your own you’ll be transferred to one of those companies sooner rather than later.

Tech has frozen hiring. Those who left in last 2 years to go to tech have underwater stock options. Oh well. Now PIP is starting in tech sector. Have fun. Tech will pay 2 weeks of severance pay

Left earlier this year. Have always been top quint. Most recent years have been OPD. MANY in OPD have left this year and last year.

If you’re in IT then you need to get out FAST. If you’re Houston-based and in IT and need to be able to provide for your family beyond 2025 spend your holidays beefing up your resume. IT has always been on the chopping block, but the last few years have expedited the elimination of IT employee based jobs.

The company’s approach has been consistent over the years. Look back at closure of NJ, NY and VA locations. They actually want attrition to thin out the more expensive experienced employees. Then once you relocated the office, hire your way back. The difference now is that the office is being relocated to low cost, low skill centers as the company wants to commoditize skilled positions. This will eventually back fire but Darwood and cronies will have cashed out and be gone.

Outstanding performer and currently have one offer from competitor company with 30 % pay raise + variable bonus on top of 3 months fixed bonus. I am under 30 years old but still in CL 25. I am waiting communication from my boss about Jan increment and RSU amount. Highly likely I might choose to leave EM m.

I am multiple year outstanding supervisor and started looking recently. Took all of a couple days for recruiters from Google and Meta (Facebook) to setup phone calls with me to explore opportunities. Friends have left recently for tech or even oil and gas competitors and renewable companies and taken huge pay increases. Don’t be afraid of variable pay. Once I leave I will be looking to poach as many of my friends from ExxonMobil as possible. Let the dominos fall.

Isn’t it crazy when all of this talent doesn’t see any career here in EM. Our shareholders should be worried. HR should be worried but they don’t get care. Focus is on meeting an artificial headcount target vs long term sustainable cost structure changes.

Watching to see what happens, but getting my resume in order now to send out and get in touch with recruiters etc.

A lot of people I speak with are of a similar mind. One person told me this week if their raise isn’t a double digit percentage increase they are leaving. Will be a shame for XOM as well because they are talented, hard working, good person.

Well I say it will be a shame for XOM but I don’t think leadership cares, will be a shame for their immediate team though.

Will be waiting and watching carefully over the next few months and see if we get rewarded for what we've delivered.

If not, i'll definitely be looking elsewhere (back to back OwD)

Aren’t you offered great opportunities for being outstanding?

Unless you’re one of the “outstanding” employees that don’t actually deserve it, it’s reasonable to assume you’ll be a high performer elsewhere as well. If you’re an Engineer, it might be worthwhile to stay if being ranked well. If you’re in a service function like IT that is CLEARLY going away soon, it’s time to bail regardless of CL or Quintile.

Highly ranked! Outstanding performer! Solely means it isn't your turn to be in the sh$#ter yet!!

I am an engineer ranked as O in the last three cycles (Houston based). Workload has been ramping up steadily over the last couple of months. If we don't get a treat with the recently announced, multi-billion quarterly profits, I will be out by Jan 15th.

Same. Not worried about my future ranking….I just feel this place sucking away my soul.

Same. I’m not worried about my future ranking, as I am employable either way. But the stellar earnings report just made me feel angry and empty. It made me wonder why I am signing up for this.

Top of the heap for many years (my whole life actually) and started being knocked down the ladder the last couple years for no reason other than outsourcing technical jobs. Retiring at the end of the year, a couple years before I planned to, just to keep from getting put on the "program"

Yes same.. I may be a high performer now, but just one bad boss, one bad year away from getting kicked to the curb.

Never stop looking but don't just leave in a hurry. Make the right decision
