With the size of the workforce at VZ, have you ever wondered if a few employees go unaccounted for? I read an article about an employee of a large company that existed on the payroll of a company for 37 years. This person was not accountable for anything. This person flew under the wire their whole working life. Have you ever heard of this at Verizon?

Yes!! This happened about 19 years ago within UUNET UK - one of our colleagues left and went to Australia. He was paid for a year before anyone noticed!
You can bet there are some of these at Verizon, how many? Maybe 10 or less.
I could definitely see this happening. The way Verizon operates it seems more likely than not to occur. It seems like mandatory tasks, like COBC and such, could get you caught. You would need to be careful to pull it off.
Ha regarding the collectors, I believe there are still a hand full out there, prob in long term disability by now …

OP, seriously, you while away your free time stewing over whether such a person exists.
Get a hobby, or a wife, or a life.
Get shuffled enough it is bound to happen. Or those that go out on FMLA and their team gets cut but they are forgotten about. Only to return 120 days later and have no one to report to. Wonder if and how they combat non-US employees from being able to hold multiple positions.
That was my job in basking ridge finance for my whole time there.

When I last spoke to a principal engineer in translations at AT&T earlier this year, he quoted there being about 2000.
I could definitely see where a few employees could fall between the cracks. So long as they didn't get caught, if so VZ would probably demand the wages be returned.
We cut the last three 1AESS's in the state of Ohio, all in Columbus. It was a mandate by PUCO. What a waste, looking back now. I believe there are about 750 switches, er I mean boat anchors wasting space in at&t central office buildings!
Ah, 1AESS. How many times have I typed VFY-DN-30? Got to do a Recent Change roll back once.... Nothing like a Phase 6 in the morning as a Hail Mary when the thing isn't behaving right.
