Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Time frame on relocation letter

For anyone who has been forced to move, how long do they give you? If you say you'll move, how much time do you have? If you say you won't, how long before they let you go?

Implicit in saying we are being forced to move is the understanding that we'll lose our jobs if we don't. Everyone here knows that's what it means, so it's ridiculous to object to the use of the phrase. It's as ridiculous as if I told you the abysmal morale isn't the company's fault, because of your morale gets low you are free to quit, they aren't forcing you to stay here.
Or saying that nobody is forcing you to go to an office with insufficient parking/workstations, you have the choice to work from home and take the consequences.

But since you seem to know what the OP meant by the phrase, I think you're just being pedantic, for no good reason. This is a forced relocation policy they are implementing, the phrase fits perfectly.

I work by myself currently, alone, but will soon be required to move to another city where I will collaborate with no one there, my ability to do my job won't change at all, just so they draw another tally mark in a hub city. You may find that to be a non-issue, less important than having a parking space or having low morale, but those of us having to uproot our lives or be terminated disagree.

Everybody gets six moths after accepting and agreeing to relocate to Dallas. Everybody!

Nobody is forced. This is a pro-choice situation I approve.

"I'm curious what other legit complaints you have for anything else though, if you think this isn't a use of force?"

Yes, I am the guy who said you should stop using the phrase "forced to move". Then people come back at me and say "well you ARE being forced to move if you want to keep your job..." But the OP and others aren't using that language. They just claim AT&T is forcing them to move. Which is ridiculous of course.

The legit complaints? Making people return to offices that don't have enough parking or workstations for them. Monitoring of badge swipes, LAN time , COU, etc. of management-- through flawed reporting that puts the burden on the monitored employee to "prove" it's wrong, fostering a climate of discontent and abysmal morale , the likes of which have never been seen here.

"No one is being forced to do anything, and it only serves to weaken all of the legit complaints we have for everything else that is going on."

That makes as much sense as saying we aren't forced to pay taxes, or stop at red lights. We have a choice there too.

I'm curious what other legit complaints you have for anything else though, if you think this isn't a use of force?

“I am not a company shill and I think what has been going on is abhorrent.
That said, stop using phrases like "forced to move"...”

But then I would have to take accountability for decisions I have made and not be able to blame others. I hate my life.

They don’t dictate when you have to “move” just a date when you’re expected to “live your designation” in the new office building. Usually given 2-3 weeks to respond to the letter and then another 5 or so months before you’re expected to report at the new location.

Like others said, at some point you’ll have to support a local residing address but unsure if there is a specific timeline for it.

I am sorry you are so simple minded that you cannot connect the dots. If you want to keep your job you are being forced to move. Do you understand, simpleton?

“Good luck, i can say I have never been happier since i was forced out for not moving to Dallas.”

But yet here you are posting on the T layoff board within just a couple hours of a new message being posted. I don’t believe you.

Glad to see T is still as pathetic as it was when I was given the letter over a year ago. Glad i got out then, have all my plans moved to T-Mobile, took the lump sum, there are no real retirement benefits any longer i found out with T so don't stick around for that which doesn't exist. Good luck, i can say I have never been happier since i was forced out for not moving to Dallas.

Not sure what most recent letters look like, but we got letter at end of September, and we had to have our answer in by 10/11. It included the report date in the new location. So whether it was 3 days or 5, they expected us to be in that city on that date (though not necessarily moved).

If you were offered relocation package, you then had one year from acceptance of letter for all those benefits--so any/all money and services by 10/25. The relo rep suggested closing with a bit of a cushion to ensure everything would be cleared.

If you didn't get a relocation package, or even if you did, at some point, they will notice and/or ask for a local address as your address of record. Whether it's a new house, or a lease, or you're living with relatives, you'll almost certainly be expected to provide a local to your new hub mailing address.

Do not make worry OP. If you are in agree to move, you receive a tanks but no tanks follow up letter telling of further evaluation job has been eliminate. Once targeted they want you gone always. In words of my Grandfather, “A snake does bite many of times, but only once in wiener” If said wiener does receive the bite, no need to worry about said snake anymore as you does now have many fish you need to fry in frying pans.

You’ve had over two years at this point. Your layoff is imminent if not relocating.

They are not putting the time in the letters anymore. They give you the time frame after you make the decision. You typically have a month to notify HR of your decisions, though I have heard some people had to reply within 2 weeks. After you notify them of your decision you will be told when to show up in Dallas or when to stay home and wait for your severance check.
