“ Attention to all the people that have the assumption that Fiber is the holy grail…”

True and anyone that believes that fiber eliminates all repair issues is wrong. However having worked through the Uverse experience there is little doubt that fiber decreases a lot of work content for the outside technicians which isn’t insignificant. A hard rain used to mean forced overtime. A large pulp cut used to mean 1-2 weeks of numerous techs working 24/7 to restore service. Metal, water and electricity causes more issues than glass, water and light. Live in a fibered area. Heavy rain no longer means seeing numerous techs out to dark thirty.
And yes we are probably seeing more fiber cuts. Considering the amount of fiber that is being placed and the amount of copper that is being decommissioned that trend will continue.

Attention to all the people that have the assumption that Fiber is the holy grail… it isn’t! All of the network equipment I work on is fiber, and … while fiber doesn’t get “WET” persay, we have massive circuits that take errors due to dirty fiber. FIBER CUTS ARE ALWAYS a thing. Probably more often than copper cuts nowadays, MASSIVR fiber outages are a daily occurrence : wires being cleaned and scoped, broken fibers because they are DELICATE. If the central office techs tighten them too tight, the hunt for tiny fiber cuts, over crimped, etc … so, while overall we may not get a ton of “cable issues due to rain” fiber has its own issues.

Most fiber bills come on standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper.

This work will be contracted out to non-union sub-contractors. No joke.

I’m buying all kind of good things over the next few years. I’m hoping for a union buyout around 2029 or 30. If not, maybe figure out some disability. All this fibre splicign has made em dyslexci

Thats a d-mb statement. You must be management. I am not saying all managers are this d-mb.

Question could be is how many folks will be needed after the initial build is done, both craft and management. Stuff is not indestructible like some want to believe but other than squirrels and backhoes most of the repair work basically goes away. Will need some folks for new construction and the old copper that is rapidly disappearing.

2029 they say, so probably end of 2027, then I hope they surplus me. If you are not even close to retirement I would be careful about purchasing big ticket items. Especially if you are in construction or engineering like me.
