Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

From Retail to Call Center. How Long Before it Fizzles out?

I worked for a Corporate AT&T store for 4 years as a Retail Sales Consultant. I decided to apply for the Call Center “Broadband Service” Position mainly because I have Medical issues I cannot stand for long, I’ll need both knees replaced/surgery soon etc. I’m 41 years old and years of practicing Martial Arts my knees are basically sc--wed. Taking break falls studying Aikido messed me up just a small piece of info. Anyway, got the job at the Call Center 6 months ago. At first it was basically a Customer Service job which I liked, especially being able to sit down & chill while I deal with billing issues, and it was “try to sell them wireless”. NOW it’s 1000000000% Sales Sales Sales. They hired over 200 reps at my Call Center, and it’s now a Sales Job. Many Reps resigned because they were misinformed what the job entailed.

I wonder how long it will be before this Company gets their NUT & Lays off so many Reps? I have a Start Date with another Company May 1st, it’s a 100% WFH Job with Allstate. I make over $60K a year with AT&T, but I’m just wondering WHEN will AT&T layoff all those workers? Even if I bite the bullet & stay? I reached out to my CWA President & She said “it’s inevitable with Artificial Intelligence!”…. Sorry if this is a bit of a Rant, I’m kind of lost here. I actually like Call Center Jobs, but not the PUSH to Sell! The Micromanaging here is INSANE! Any Advice is Appreciated.

Well, AI gonna cause trouble no matter which company you work for. Now coming back at T, its dumpster fire on steroids. Last CEO sc--w us big time, and the Stinky is adding fuel to the fire. He might cook some books for shareholders, but at the end of the day he knows we can’t compete being reactive and copy everything from Amazon playbook. Gove it couple of months before Satellite communications shows significant rise from bad network coverage everywhere and T would be considered as outdated as a freaking type writer or floppy disk.

Company is eclipsing the core service rep title and moving it to mobility employees. They get 2 or 3 for the price of one and a lot fewer benefits to pay. Service rep title isn't going away, it's just being moved.

All under the nose of CWA who could care less.

You want a $60K per year role, but only if you bear no responsibility for revenue generation. How many coworkers do you have? That math is simple. See ya.
