“Several folks I know were asked by their bosses to write down what they do on a daily basis”
“Many employees must have found making a list pretty difficult.”

Many leaders would have an issue with the edict.

  • Jeremy’s list would be void of any worthwhile content except for some guitar related bullsh-t.
  • Wards list would be 12 pages long with only 3 items on it. Blank spaces in between all the words would account for the rest).
  • Heidi’s list would be one colossal paragraph sharing her curiosity about how butterflies never get caught in bicycle spokes or some hippy twisted muck. In her defense, there will be a small indecipherable reference about the Ticketing program, but she will need someone else to step in and explain it.
  • Marcus’ list would have pages of content in a power point format highlighting everything he does for Ward, saving his a$$ daily, including fetching his dry cleaning because he forgot where he dropped it off, and feeding him chocolate pudding from a white plastic spoon.
  • The rest of us would have lists filled with everything that happens to keep this decrepit ship floating while everyone above us does everything in their power to steer it directly towards the iceberg.

"Why is it those who were culled always return with advice? smh"

Because that's one thing folks do on an internet forum. You can always just syh privately.

Pretty pathetic if Managers are so out of touch they have to ask their resources to write down what they do on a daily basis. Similar to the presence reports which are a joke. If the Managers do not know where their resources are or what they are doing then the Manager needs to be canned.

“Several folks I know were asked by their bosses to write down what they do on a daily basis, so this possible layoff fits right in with that request.”

Everything that is wrong with AT&T.
We reorg the $hit out of everyone without full consideration of their contributions and abilities and lump them into a group under a random boss. The boss is not in their league, doesn’t have the correct background or responsibilities to properly manage them. In most cases the boss doesn’t bother to understand their new reports’ business and technical acumen. In some cases their boss is incompetent or checked out altogether, and just like that, it’s the final countdown to the employees illustrious and productive career at AT&T. FYou.

Several folks I know were asked by their bosses to write down what they do on a daily basis, so this possible layoff fits right in with that request. I even told one of my co-workers that it sounds like the bosses are about to rank the employees based on that input.

“got out of the Legg org and glad I did............toxic and disorganized doesn't even begin to describe it.”

Business here. IT lost all the good ones. There is nobody left to reach out to and partner with. Nobody to collaborate with to discuss business needs and find acceptable solutions for them. There were a few outstanding individuals that understood the technical and business landscape and what we were striving for, but those individuals are long gone. We now go it alone. IT at AT&T is not a dying breed, it’s dead and buried. Everything that is happening now in that org is a mockery that we continue to avoid at all costs.
We no longer have a dog in this fight but agree that there’s an inordinate amount of yapping going on over there. The whole org just needs to go away at this point.

How that yapping little dog is still leading them is way beyond imaginable........ I wish my former colleagues the best of luck, you deserve better.

We openly call him the yapping chihuahua in our group. Whenever that stupid bloke shows up with his guitar, there’s a bloody symphony of laughter that follows, and we don’t bother to stifle or hide it just because we are RTO.

We bloody well take our work and deliverables seriously because it’s our a-s if something goes wrong. So when we see the head clown of our org. trying to stroke a guitar and his delicate, dainty, ego at the same time, you can bet your github check-ins we feel justified in our ridicule of this wa-ker!

Guarantee one day that bloke is going to find his way in wikipedia with a list of all his wrong doings.

Speaking as one that got the ax in November... be very happy you are getting out of that toxic _HITHO_E !! First thing to do is to cancel your AT&T Cellular plan and go with T-Mo! Honestly, after all the years we have been brainwashed to think T-Mo is garbage... I am VERY happy with their service, price, benefits and customer service that absolutely blows ours away... EVERY time I had to call our customer service, it went into oblivion... a few times saying "All our reps are busy helping other customers, you can call back later or we can call you back in 4 hours" Compare to my call to T-MO where in 5 seconds I am talking to a live person, and they are friendly and make sure you are taken care of... I am blown away how not only were we lied to about how "GREAT we were" and how T-MO Su-ked... but how much better they are, for a much lesser price and great service! Really, do yourself a favor and when you get the boot out of our beloved "T" make the cut a clean one and dump them so they dont get a dime of your money in the future! Good luck everyone! Life is better after "T" ( the current "T" that is!)

Good. Everyone should celebrate being free from working under that despicable, sniveling, lying pile of dog cr-p.

And if that dweeby-a-s dou--ebag is reading this, feel free to put it in your pathetic self-important “mean tweets” at your next money-wasting juvenile town hall.

@bs+1jr0jxchb No one uses the term "layoff" for management. Surplus is a company wide term for reductions in all roles.

What is Business Operations now considered?

by

Post ID: @bz+1jr0jxchb

Surplus is a craft contract term: meaning that you have a few options to stay on payroll before going in the job bank based on seniority then taking severance and leaving the company as a last resort.

Layoff is a management term: meaning that you only have two weeks on payroll left then severance with a very small possibility of re-hire. Severance keeps getting reduced so if you have any inkling of being let go better start getting your ducks in a row now.

“Dead weight.”

Stow it already. The heaviest and most costly “dead weight” is in the C suite followed by the extraneous layers of VPs.

But there is no difference in the end result.

Eh, except I think craft can still finagle into another position via seniority and bump someone else if their original position is part of a surplus. Somebody's going to be out of a job, just not necessarily the who is definite at first with a surplus. With a layoff, it's you. Doesn't mean you might not be able to find another position within the company (if they'll allow it), but it's not part of the usual process.

“ If they know that far ahead, why don’t they go ahead and just tell people now?”
Because those people would just find another internal job and they want them gone or to retire.

Assuming it's management based on the timeline, so it's a layoff, not a surplus.

Not surprised. His isn’t the only org. Network also announced layoffs. Coming to everyone due to subscriber and revenue losses.
