EM responds through back channels to Bloomberg article

A few days ago an “independent”, claiming to be a retired executive from Shell, posted on LI a long and detailed reply to the Bloomberg article. The post looks a bit too sophisticated and well-thought to be an outsider’s two cents on the issue, while everything he says praises EM and accuses the journalists of being dishonest. According to the post, EM is a great company to work for, the managers are top-notch, the prospects of the company golden, so young people should have no reservation to go work for EM.
It conspicuously refuses to even mention the central issue raised by the Bloomberg article, namely the unusually high attrition. Just like all managers posting here, it uses the current high stock price to demonstrate that everything is hunky dory (“the stock price is the highest it has been in eight years”). Completely fails to mention that if EM would have kept up with at least Chevron in the last eight years, the price of EM stock should have been close to $200, and if it would have kept up with the S&P 500 it should have been $600-800.
Exactly what you would expect from our management: no regrets for gutting the company in the long-term and no courage to even acknowledge an article that states what everybody in the industry knows.

You forgot to mention the key fact: the overwhelming majority of the top 20% are at the top of the ranking strictly because they’re nicely sponsored HiPos or at least excellent brown nosers who tell their management exactly what they want to hear, while they look for another job with a less toxic company (as mentioned in the be previous post).

@2mzh+1jrYu57p d-mb and false, I know plenty of people who are publicly pro-EM while they search for a way out, and no small number of people who have resigned were in the Outstanding group

......There is actually diversity of thought and opinion in the world outside this echo chamber of negativity.....

I wouldn't call it a "diversity of views", I believe there are actually two different views of what's going on today at EM

  • The view of the top 20%
  • The view of the bottom 80%

These two views are like two parallel universes, it is "them against us", completely and diametral opposite.

  • The top 20% believes that "everything is awesome".
  • The bottom 80% believes every single word that is spell out in that article, and many other negative things about this toxic culture that are not even mentioned there.

What you call "echo-chamber of negativity" is the reality that 80% of us is experiencing every single day.

Sure, Shell guys write long detailed posts looking as coming from EM spokespersons all the time on LI. Especially when EM representatives badmouth Shell as the suckers who didn’t believe in the potential of Guyana. They also forget to mention how EM almost ki---d Liza before it was drilled (“Exxon sent out 35 letters seeking new partners after Shell walked away from Stabroek Block”, OilNow, Oct. 21, 2022).

Thanks, OP, article link or not, it is a good summary of the blinders on this old hoss.

The responses to your post point to some wood alc issues at the Shiner plant.
All good though.
Blinders is blinders.

I doubt there was a coordinated effort to make a LinkedIn post. You’re overthinking it. There is actually diversity of thought and opinion in the world outside this echo chamber of negativity.

Link to response? Guessing it hasn’t had much traction if it’s not making waves.
