Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Manager says safe for now

Manager says we are safe for now, and she cannot say what future holds. Should I start looking outside even if I survive this cycle of layoffs.

@rhw+1jrsdYDJ LOL! Everyone, please pay special attention to this person's reply, because she/he is clearly demonstrating the pattern of lies and deception I was talking about!

Agreed, don't trust your manager and HR staff. They act for the best interests of the company and not YOU.

OP: Your manager either does not really know or she is not allowed to disclose more info beforehand. You can look at how many layers between you and the CEO, and divide the number by 2. Maybe the manager at the number’s level knows.

Not every manager does that. Most managers push employees under the bus to save themselves

@bqo
You sound very bitter. The guys that report to me are all hard working and talented and I refuse to fire any of them. Someone else will have to do it. They can fire me first, no problem.

Managers below director level probably have no clue yet. I'm a manager and I don't.

Your manager is going to lie to you; all day, every day.
Your manager is not your friend or buddy--don't let your manager lull you into thinking you are.
Pat is full of sh-t. Intel is not a "family" --it's a business.
Your question is your indicator of what you need to do. You already know what to do.

If they don't get you this thing, they'll get you best next time

these are going to happen for the next 2 years in my opinion. ACT2016 was actually the last of 3 rounds of layoffs that started in 14.

Lol! Of course she's going to say you are safe. They can't disclose to anyone who will be layed off. They will p1ss down your back and tell you that it's raining.

@OP. Only you can answer that question.

If I were in your shoes, I would polish up the resume and start looking outside the company to see what’s available that suits my interests. Maybe acquire or update certifications and learn new skills to make myself standout to potential employers.

If I really really wanted to stay at Intel, I would try to figure out which business groups might be the least impacted and build up my network within those groups. There used to be a system that allowed a person to work for another group for a percentage of the time, I don’t remember what it’s called (don’t work there anymore), but that’s one way to increase your network of contacts and possibly learn new skills at the same time.

Always trust your instincts, always.
