Ghost Jobs on the Job Boards

I have submitted 35 applications, but I am getting no job interviews. I had updated my resume with the help of a professional resume consultant, so I thought I should get something, but getting nothing. Then, someone told me that there are many ghost job postings on the job boards. I didn't believe it until I saw this article on LinkedIn. Looks like we are in a terrible environment.

Wait, Shart’s not his name?

I don't think they are ghost jobs. I have been applying for multiple jobs as well and been getting the thanks but no thanks emails. Some of the jobs I have applied for I actually did in a previous role or managed the function before they moved it to different areas, lol. I asked a manager who posted a role and then had to repost it and they said they aren't getting good candidates referred up. I am thinking I am not putting the right things in my resume or the HR team has been told to prioritize outside. Shart has been on the record saying he preferred outside talent anyways.

Yes, I typed Shart on purpose. I don't like Charlie so instead of calling him curse words I just call him Shart. Its appropriate.

none of the things in the article are new news - the tips are good though, if you weren't aware.

hard to understand why people use AI for a job interview. If they land it, they can't do the job, and they get fired. Why even go through that? But interviewers are getting smarter on how to outsmart the AI. Some now do the final interview in person, spend the money to fly them in, even if its remote, to make sure they know who they are hiring.

First, look up the AI job application software. People are using this to apply for every open job that matches their criteria.

Second, look at the articles where people in other countries are using AI software to deepfake who they are in video interviews to get high-paying US jobs.

This is what you have to contend with. If you can manage to get past the Automated Tracking Systems, you're then competing against phony candidates who check every box and lie to get the job.

Being honest about yourself gets you nothing in today's market.

If you see a job posted somewhere, go check the company's actual website. The post may be old and closed. Yes, it could be old.

And if there IS a posting on the company's site, apply there.

Laid off last year in June. Just got hired. Folks are applying for jobs using automated emails. Most of the time they don't qualify for the job. If you have credit card debt, pay it off. Calculate what you can live on..not just survive and be prepared to take a pay cut. Then accept an offer even tho' it isn't exactly what you want, give it your best and keep looking.

Job boards/aggregators are sh--e in general. If you’re using them you really aren’t looking for THE job you want, you’re just looking for A job.

Better off focusing on yourself, what it is you want and then looking directly at companies that meet your requirements and applying through their internal pipeline. Giant companies will always have feeler openings to gauge the market but you are more likely to find a real position that you actually want through direct applications.

It could be any number of things-- they have somebody in mind already (how you know vs what you know). They had approval to hire but Mango man has put so much uncertainty that people might be holding off. It could be an actual ghost job or it could be recruiters are too busy to actually deal with 100s of resumes.

could be they already have someone in mind but still have to post. also, unless it doesn't explicitly state no sponsorship, could be they are hiring an h1b and still have to post the job. Lastly, each requisition is getting 100s of applicants so it isn't that they are fake postings it's just they can't get to all of them or even if they doook at yours there are many that are more qualified. Seems in most cases these days they won't take down the post and disposition you until the job is filled.

Its always been that way, in all industries, to post jobs, and then HR can get a pulse of the market to see how many are looking.

No one is hiring right now. Keep trying, though. You will break a door down.
