Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Received email to reverify spouse eligibility mentions COBRA

I’m assuming everyone receive this email letting us know that we will have to reverify our spouse’s eligibility for health insurance etc. my spouse is not covered here at the bank. But I wanted to bring your attention to a line that was in bold:
“If you don’t reverify your spouse or partner by the deadline, they’ll be dropped from your coverage and won’t be eligible for COBRA”.

Me-thinks something is coming….

Anyone know if this affects those of us on a LOA? I haven't received anything in the mail but remember I had to verify my spouse a couple years ago by providing our marriage certificate

Someone in HR told me they are are trying to catch fraud with spousal coverage, in particular significant other coverage.

Both responses below are correct. Employers are terrified about being fined for not notifying active employees of their COBRA rights. It's one thing the govt enforces particularly well.

Bank is just keeping its file up to date to avoid a fine.

Do verify your spouse, if applicable, but otherwise ignore.

It is simply the definition of how Cobra works. Sharing that information is expected. You are reading way down in the tea leaves on this one.

Sorry to disappoint you. I had to complete that 2 years ago and nothing happened. That is a health insurance requirement and not driven by BOA. The health insurance companies use it to catch fraud.
