I'd be happy to trade places with anybody who was laid off with severance. After 12 years here I've had enough of this place. It went from bad to worse in the past couple of years and I don't see myself staying much longer. I don't want to just walk away, though. After all I've been through here, I deserve to be paid to leave.

Talk to your skip level manager and hr point of contact and ask to be put on a list for the next round if possible. This also depends on what group you’re in. They will likely tell you that they don’t know of any layoffs coming because they have to say that. It also depends on why you’re wanting to leave. Telling them that you’ve had enough and that you deserve to be paid to leave it’s not legitimate.
Problem with this is that the job market isn’t so strong anymore. A lot of hiring freezes. This discussion would have been different a year ago.
