Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I just need to hear something good for once

Between all the layoffs, RTO, and benefit cuts, it feels like we’re stuck in a doom loop. Anyone actually get a surprise bonus, decent raise, or even just proper staffing lately? I’d ki-l for one shred of proof that workplaces still care. Please, tell me your wins. I need the hopium.

I just got laid off after 7 years. They started tanking my reviews and everything I did was met with sudden disciplinary action. I was put on a PIP and after meeting all the requirements to keep my job, was laid off. Because it was performance based, no severance. They might even fight my unemployment. I also got let go right before the next pay period. So I have nothing. They did it so perfectly calculated. They give 0 sh--s about their employees.

I left the company a month ago after getting a fully remote job as I realized that they would finally put everyone to the office. I even saw it was coming when they pushed 2 days to 3 days. Thus, when I saw managers need to come 4 days a week, I started applying for new job.
My manager 1.5 months ago when I resigned, said "well, there is no announcement about non-management employees to go to the office 4 days a week".
Even worse they told me that my salary will never increase unless I was promoted (kind of 10% more salary but 50% or double work. Nope). This is such a joke as the maximum range was the minimum range for current work now although I am at the same level with the Job in BNY.
I even lost all the BNY 401k match because I was there only 2 years 3 months when the vesting time is 3 years (something new lately. There was no vesting in BNY 5 years ago). I had 10 PTO left and they only approve my vacation for a week. I lost 5 PTO without getting any payments for it. It never happened in any companies that I had worked before. A big corporate like BNY but acts stingy like that. On top of it, I tried to have a nice resignation as I didn't want to burn the bridge. But do you know what? In my termination package, they said that Manager will be never allowed to give me reference for any future jobs. BNY only provides Job verification thru HR. I think this is because of the laws so they have to do it. Otherwise they will get willing to punish us as much as possible because we leave them.
So all 401k lost, all PTO lost, I of course feel pity but I don't regret.
So the good news is my current job now is fully remote , I got higher salary and still have room to get salary raise for a same level. The job is so much less pressure and easier because we have been trained by BNY. No matter how much BNY disappointed me, there is one thing I have to admit that BNY makes us become shinny diamond due to all pressure we suffer and we push ourselves to develop. So this is one good thing when working in BNY. The moment you leave it and come to another one you will see how outstanding you are

I’ve heard reports from people in multiple areas that all of the layoffs have left them overworked and stressed. The new business models have them reporting up to people who don’t understand what their new staff even does. I know of at least 3 people who have given notice without even having another job lined up because they cannot deal with the mismanagement anymore.

The MDs in my group started coming in 4 days before that was required of managers, and most come in 5 days to lead by example. Sounds like the other poster has a different experience with their MD leadership but for us, they were doing it themselves way before anyone else was required to do so.

There is nothing good to say about this company … I know there is a push for wfh staff to be forced into the office. I’ve heard. Managing director are exempt from the requirement, it amazing how the rules only apply to some while the rest of us are treated so poorly

The good news:
Don’t wait for opportunities to come knocking; go out and create your own destiny. You are your own best friend. Never put yourself down, never think you are stuck and never despair. Always look for new skills as keys to unlock new doors.
