The irony of this BS is not lost on me when I walk past "May is blood pressure month" on the 16th floor and open MySource and read "May is Mental Health Awareness month". My linkedin is updated and resume up to date.

"How" do you get out, you ask?
By being laser-focused on getting TF out, that's how.
You don't just settle for reaching out to former bosses or looking at LinkedIn.
You dedicate HOURS, each and EVERY DAY to getting yourself hired someplace new.
And you DON'T STOP until you reach this goal.

If your mortgage, family, future is important to you, then you will be INVESTING the TIME and ENERGY into finding new ways to get a new job.

I'm talking dedicating ALL of your waking evening hours after you're finished with your regular workday, (and after having allotted yourself a couple of hours to wind down from it, and to have eaten dinner) to applying to new positions online.

  • Go to different sites like indeed.com to see what's available, then apply via those companies' sites, directly.
  • Look on Wiki for lists of certain companies in certain industries, and then go to those companies' sites, and see what they have available in their "jobs" sections.
  • Try new job sites which offer remote-only positions, such as: https://www.builtinnyc.com/jobs/remote/finance?search=finance&city=New+York+City&state=New+York&country=USA&allLocations=true

Give yourself a goal to reach for each evening, something like 10 resumes w/ cover letters/applications submitted, and stick to it.
Do this consistently, and the interviews and offers WILL happen.

Invest in yourself, no one else gives a sh!t about your future anywhere near as much as you do, and you're the one who has to live with it!

In reply to @b3+1jt3a3axp,

If I can't find a desk when I get to the office, I plan to keep a card table and folding chair and a 100 ft extension cord in the back of my car to set up in the hallway or another highly visible location so clients that come in can see how embarrassing it is to work here.

Very good post. But honestly, this place as it sits now DOES NOT favor people with familial responsibilities and looking for stability. Before 3 years ago it did. Now it does not with RTO and the destruction of benefits and work life balance. This place favors single, young , unattached people who have no family ambition and individualism. Here, you are expected to make this your life until you leave. That is ugly and wrong. The Aesop’s fable I think this place is closer to is ‘The frogs who desired a King’. The frogs kept petitioning Zeus for a King. Zeus laughed and gave them a log for King. For a while, things were good but they grew bored and asked for a real King who could challenge them to greater things. Zeus got angry and sent a large stork which started gobbling the frogs up. Moral: better no rule than cruel rule. And… better be careful what you ask for before thinking…..our BNY investor community is going to learn this the hard way. This company is in trouble.

@gx+1jt3a3axp

The firm favors employees who, due to familial responsibilities, become too comfortable in their roles, making them less likely to push for change or advancement.

  • Many professionals fall into this cycle by:
  • Not keeping up with new technologies or industry trends
  • Neglecting self-promotion and continuous interviewing
  • Settling for stability in salary, raises, and work-life balance
  • Accepting workplace limitations rather than pushing for change
  • Expecting recognition for compliance rather than initiative
  • Over time, complacency sets in, driven by personal commitments and perceived stability.
  • The shift to work-from-home blurred the lines between personal and professional life, further entrenching this dynamic.
  • This pattern reflects the Aesop fable "The Arab and the Camel"—small compromises lead to gradual overreach, until professional obligations dominate personal space.

@gx+1jt3a3axp The sad part is I tried looking for similar positions on LinkedIn based on my experience and skill set, and selected "remote" in the dropdown menu. It only gave me about a dozen results, and they were:

  • Unpaid internships that require years of experience
  • Unpaid short-term volunteer gigs
  • Offering to pay less than half as much as I make with BNY

It's so over.

Everyone keeps saying ‘I’m done’ , ‘I’m out’, ‘color me gone’, ‘I’m leaving’… ok. But…..
How????
How do you expedite leaving here? How can you quit if you have a family, a mortgage and bills? This is not some summer job picking up dog cigars that you can just walk out out and then crash in your room and put on Aerosmith while your mom cooks dinner. Everyone talks brave but we are still here somehow. So whats the best way out to get anything better besides just applying or trying old bosses who are now elsewhere? Am I missing the boat? And please… don’t say linkedin. 🫣

Yeah, I'm out. Two days a week I could deal with for a bit longer, but four? He-l no, that's double the pay cut.

BNY can go back to the '80s...me, I'm going to update my resume and look for a company that knows it's 2025.

Yep. It’s all about the pageantry and showmanship and showwomanship. Right there in a kernel is the entire problem with this perverted company: Just look good. It’s all about looking good and not so much doing good. This rises all the way up to RV and our board trying to show the outside investment community that we look good. But look at what they are really doing to achieve that. I have got to get out of here. There is no kinship toward anyone here. That our leadership is trying to say that simply shows they want to look good and feel good. Just like the Reverand Jim Jones with his pitchers of koolaid. Never going to drink it.

@@f7+1jt3a3axp I've been with the firm for four years now: most of my original coworkers are no longer here or are with different departments. In my floor at 240 Greenwich, I only recognize about two people I've known for the past few years. Everyone else randomly comes and goes and I can't keep track of who's who. The majority of my team is based in Pittsburgh and Manchester, meaning I literally just come into the NYC to have virtual meetings with people miles away. It makes no sense at all.

Agree. I have this job to bring home a paycheck… Nothing more. Not to make friends not to have a sense of community with these people, not to go do some ridiculous community service thing of picking up garbage on the side of the road.
if I want to pick up garbage I’m gonna do it in my own neighborhood/municipal

& different topic but it’s hilarious these emails we get now from lemmings within the line of business trying to get everybody to show up at town halls to show management why PIttsburgh is such a great growth location & to support to the out of touch ruthless executive peacocking on stage.

Burke, are we even really co workers with most of these? I challenge that. Going into 240G today, I took an internal check in my head. I walked around the floor and then up to 16 and got a coffee and counted the first random 100 people. Out of these I knew 13 and worked with 5 on various projects and tasks. That means 19 out of 20 are NOT co workers in the true sense. I don’t know these other people and nor do I want to even if I had the time. I for one do not believe coming here is like going to Church for a sense of community since I only am here to do a job and get paid.

I expect it’s because someone knows the long term future for those sites too. I don’t understand why you think it’s unreasonable for your employer to tell you where you should work from?
What happens if tomorrow you decide you want to work from the northernmost tip of Alaska? They have to owt you do that too?

Spend more time together? Lmao. Yes, let’s all come in to be stuck on team meetings.

Anyway No offensive to anyone but I don’t want to sit in the office more days listening to your kids school, game, cheerleading, and after work events. No one cares, we aren’t friends, we are coworkers. We just want to come in and be left alone. Let us do our work and please just be quiet.

Also stop complaining all day long when you are in the office. We are all miserable, we don’t need to hear your complaints. The BDS team next to me doesn’t shut up all day

There's an office in Berwyn for BNY-Archer, which was a recent merger. I just found out about it recently because I was browsing the internal jobs postings and saw open spots there for a different department. I grew up in Central PA and was in negotiations to work remotely a while back, and had serious plans to move to PA. Now that WFH is removed and we have to do four days in office, I was kind of optimistic that they would at least allow me to transfer to Berwyn so that I could live in Central PA and just drive there via Route 30, but alas I'm stuck at strategic growth centers.

Does this mean that we can go back to working only 8 hrs a day instead of 10-12 hours? Also does this mean that we don’t need to be reachable outside of working hours?

Here's the thing: I wouldn't mind this as much if they at least allowed us to transfer to any office in the world, or even opened up small satellite offices elsewhere for us to work and have short commute times. I currently work in the Lower Manhattan office at 240 Greenwich, and I can't afford to live in this area any longer due to rising rents, and I want to move back home to PA. My management told me that I'm only allowed to transfer to a strategic growth location – such as Pittsburgh, Lake Mary, Manchester, or in Poland or India. I don't want to move to any of those locations, but if they allowed me to relocate to Pennington, NJ or Berwyn, PA then I would gladly move to eastern PA where my family lives. I don't understand why it's mandatory that I have to exclusively work for a strategic growth center. I work in the Engineering team (formerly GOT), by the way.

Folks,it’s clear they are doing it to force people out.Plain and simple, the June layoff is gonna be massive, I would team up with folks who wanna get out and start doing a collaborative job search..do not wait, stay ahead of the curve, they don’t care anymore and it’s simple as that, once we are out the jobs will be ported to Pune(did you notice the new India head is from Pune?) ..they just opened a new building to hold around 7500 people, it’s just an end game, sad but it’s the reality,no net new business and higher ups treat us like trash and replaceable,I have worked with many tier-1 banks and probably BNY is the only place where years of proprietary knowledge is not valued ,add AI to the mix,the writing is on the wall!!

Saying the staff are the number 1 priority.

“World class office space” my ar-e! Our office, like most at BNY now, are just glorified call centers. Usually so loud it is hard to accomplish anything.

Also, when I WFH I actually work during the time I would be commuting. So, my working in the office is actually less productive and less efficient!

What about Agile Flex??
How will the change over work ? Will we still be monitored and fired for not making enough office days? Not enough desks in many offices.
So many questions unanswered.

UNIONIZE. If you’re facing retaliation for supporting or starting a union, document everything—emails, meetings, job changes, and witness statements. If you’re fired or punished, file a charge with the NLRB right away. Even if your employer tries to disguise it, the NLRB can help you get reinstated or compensated. Seek legal advice if needed, and remember that retaliation for union activity is illegal. Don’t be afraid to stand together—unionizing is a powerful way to protect your rights and improve your workplace!

If we are 0.6 desks to every person…and we have to be back 4 days…..how does that work? Will we need to bring in our own chairs? Could they have messed this up any better? Not only has this destroyed any morale that was left…… we are now resigned to the mad dash in the mornings to find a desk. For those of us who have to do school runs on the way to work, what happens when we can’t find a desk? This is plain madness…..where is the common sense?

My team was also allowed to WFH 3 days a week pre pandemic. I don’t get it. Was the whole perk of loosing our staff. No one to manage in house anymore. I also love how they say they’re investing in our building. Ours is in such bad shape. The most investing they did was drop the Mellon from the sign. Oh boy!

In 2025, BNY Mellon CEO Robin Vince made $23.3 million, a nearly 40% increase from the previous year—mostly from stock awards. The median employee made $80,839, with a CEO-to-worker pay ratio of 288:1.

Meanwhile, a full-time employee with a couple years at the company receives a 1.5% raise, an $885 increase for the entire year, which doesn’t even keep up with inflation. A 1.5% raise during a time when inflation is around 3% or higher means that employee’s purchasing power actually went down—they’re earning more dollars on paper but can afford less in reality.
