I have seen VT in action and his heart is in the right place and he is most hands on tech executive we have at Wells Fargo. He does not care where the idea comes from he judges the idea by its merit and gives credit where credit is due. Such a fresh perspective that hopefully we see more going forward

@bg This is mostly BS. Don't idealize the situation. "Agile must permeate the organization for business agility to succeed. For Engle to win this battle, she must ensure psychological safety for agile teams. Thakar is her spearhead, and job postings suggest more agile enforcers are coming." Here are the facts: 1) Agile will never succeed at WF: C&C will rule forever. 2) I agree with psych safety. but that requires massive OD from HR. and now that most of HR is in India that isn't going to happen. 3) Thakar and agile enforcers will come. They will either adapt or flee like Chung & Parks. First, they might try to reintroduce agile. This is going to be a freaking joke. Second, they will infuse a culture like BNY and believe it or not this might be worse than what is at WF is now. 4) This is a time to be a realist. Focus on you and your career. All should be preparing to quit or quietly quit -- analyzing your costs (psych safety, mental health) versus cost (severance lost). WF is and will remain one of the most "fearful banks"-- especially without massive changes to exec management and HR. BE will not be the silver bullet that saves you from the tar pits.

If he is here to act as DOGE or Elon, as a previous reply said, then could he DOGE TK the heck out or does she still have pictures of Saul.

No idea at this point and maybe that's a good thing. There are so many new people coming in a pretty sr. positions that it's absurd. There are plenty of groups that are pretty useless but finding ways to build their fiefdoms. They just moved some group into EA and have zero idea WTF these people actually do. There are way too many people/groups that think they have a say but do nothing but produce useless decks with next to no clue WTF they're even talking about. I just ignore the nonsense and keep doing what needs to get done.

Agile is a joke along with a bunch of other things. Saul and several in his crew pretty much sc--wed up everything about actually running a tech organization.

To the poor people at Wells, think about where Bridget came from and that will answer who's VT. Completely useless "architect" and Bridget cronie. There will be more coming, unfortunately for you... Sorry your BAU will be hair on fire all the time. But then again, it could be worse and you could be working for the company they came from.... both companies are hopeless at this point.

Hey @bg+1jt4cgjv6 I put this thread and your entry into AI. Then Prompted "Are there examples of employing agile (agile transformation) going against traditional hierarchical C&C management? What are the strategies and tips?" Good stuff
Came back with ING bank, GE and others. This is a classic battle.

To learn more, search Google: site:https://www.thelayoff.com bridget engle wells fargo. I won’t rehash the posts here—just some observations.
Wells Fargo’s tech division is in crisis. Cloud migration, agile transformation, and offshoring are failing, caught in a war between entrenched “command & control” (C&C) managers and agile “Team” practitioners. CEO Charlie Scharf (CS) hired Bridget Engle (BE) as Head of Technology in August 2024 to tackle this mess, and she brought in Vinay Thakar as her agile enforcer to drive transformation. Most skilled contributors have been laid off, leaving C&C managers and their ineffective allies to dominate. Scharf’s mandate is clear: fix tech, as WF is too big to fail. Will Engle and Thakar’s agile push overcome the ethical rot of WF’s past—like the fake accounts scandal or the “efficiency” program enabling employee mistreatment by C&C management? Agile must permeate the organization for business agility to succeed. For Engle to win this battle, she must ensure psychological safety for agile teams. Thakar is her spearhead, and job postings suggest more agile enforcers are coming.
