Returning Wells Fargo Issued Equipment - after displacement

Have mercy on me, people. I know this question has been asked many times, but I am getting conflicting answers. I was displaced after 35 years. I received two empty boxes with packing materials and Fedex return labels. The displacement guide says to return computer, plus any monitors, keyboards, mouse, badge etc.

I would like to keep my two monitors. The mini PC has a service tag @ and a barcode. The other equipment does not, and would probably be trashed if I send to the vendor. I don't want to jeopardize my severance package. Can I get away with sending back the PC only? Is anyone really tracking the other stuff? Since they sent two boxes, are they really looking to get two boxes back?

The really want data-bearing devices ‐ so you'd be good with returning laptop, corporate phone (if you have one), badge and any token.

Frankly, you can keep the monitors and say they broke hahaha. (...this from someone who regularly submits these requests for others)

Just send them back and buy yourself two monitors. Be done with WF garbage.

I was displaced on 2/4. They sent me a list of the equipment they wanted back - only the laptop. I had two monitors and a recently issued corp. phone. I emailed the equipment return people and they never responded. Got all my paychecks during the 60 days and I’m nearly one month into my 10 months of severance, so there you go

They dont track monitors the problem is your EDML request has them listed to be returned so they can see if you dont return them. I wouldnt risk it but to each there own.

One more thing-- your manager has an inventory of who has what computers. I know b/c a previous dck boss of mine was bugging a few of us about laptops we had. At the time I was getting a new laptop and had already turned in my old one but the inventory had not been updated. There were some other laptops with other folks with the same deal-- broken or being replaced. He wasn't a dck b/c of that, but just a d*ck in general.

They don't track monitors -- or at least didn't before. I have a monitor and doc from when we went remote during COVID. There are no bar codes on them. I don't know why they'd want monitors back anyway. They'll just trash them b/c all offices have dual monitors already in all the cubes. Even laptops (assuming near EOL) would be d-mb to get back. Why bother with the expense of tracking, inventory, getting to disposal company. I seriously doubt they get much money for 3+ yr old laptops.

Keeping things that not belong to you is stealing. You are old enough to know that

Return their garbage hardware, enjoy your 14 months of pay and use a tiny fraction of it to buy good monitors.

You didn't pay for them. So why keep them? Not your property.

Really? Why jeopardize your severance over cheap monitors? Send them back & go to Best Buy & buy new big monitors.

When I left I turned in my laptop and badge. That was it. I kept the two monitors and docking station. They never chased me down for the equipment.

Step 1, your pay can’t be withheld for not returning the equipment. IF they decided you owed them for monitors that would be an entirely different process to procure payment from you.

Step 2. Send your pc back in one box and whatever other cr-p you want in the other.

If the monitors are over 5 years old they won’t even care. They probably don’t care anyways if they weren’t. End of the day if you don’t send them back and they ever notice they will simply ask for them again. Then it will be up to you to decide if some old azz are worth the azz ache.

  • Sincerely, an employee who still has a barcoded laptop from 2015. Tried to give it back, gave up.

They sent me 1 box with the same instructions. Called about my monitor and was told if WF paid for - send it back (scripted response). They sent another box. Monitors are cheap and didn't want anything messing with sev. They probably trashed it.
