Why all these layoffs if the purpose of RTO is to fire people without severance?

Yes. Reminder me of our White House deportation policy.

“Right sizing the company. Getting rid of unneeded workers.”

How many times must you numbskulls be told?! The #1 “unneeded workers” are the BoD, C suite & extraneous layers of “VP’s”!

You can’t give up your pay and your healthcare just because you have to RTO. Moving to a hub city yes I would quit over that but then you’d get severance anyway.

The purpose of RTO is not "to fire people without severance;" it's to reduce headcount by any means necessary. (regarding mangement numbers only) First there was RTO and hub reassignments with employee choice (voluntary separation). So T was willing to pay severance to get rid of people.

Then, IMO, they didn't expect as many people to follow the job, so they didn't get the reduction they expected, so in come the compliance firings with no severance. Still not getting the numbers they want fast enough.

So now on to the involuntary separations (SNL) with severance. Still trying to get to their magical number.

The severance is not the issue when it comes to management. Managers, particularly those in the SE (originally) are cheap to lay off. Only up to 6 months severance and in the SE, super lower lump sum pension payouts.

The goal is not to 'not pay severance,' the goal is to get to the magic number, hopefully taking as many people still existing under older pension and separation payout guidelines as possible.

Because some divisions are getting axed regardless of their demographics. The RTO action is to get rid of older employees across the board. That will not save you if you are young and in a division that is targeted for reduction. They don't have the cajones to just outright fire people wholesale based on RTO, or they would be doing that instead. Legal has correctly told them some severance packages are unavoidable. Of course younger targeted employees get far less severance anyway, so the point is somewhat moot.

Most employees are desperate and have no other options.

I wouldn’t call us employees desperate mr. jackhole. I would say we are doing our jobs as dutifully as we always have been and are receiving a paycheck. Why would we let some pudgy vest wearing Pillsbury dough man, or a dorky hair cut guitar plunker force us out just because they have a distorted world view and a biased agenda. My advice to you is to just keep wiggling your mouse and collecting status from other peoples work and bury your head so they don’t realize you offer nothing and contribute nothing.

Because not enough people quit on their own with RTO.

Because we have leaders that lack critical thinking skills and their strategies fail at every turn. They implemented RTO with such disdain and contempt, that employees dug their heels in and are spitting in the eye of the devil dog c suite instead of quitting.
What would have also coaxed others to retire was retiree medical benefits but again, the d-mb devil dogs played their hand all at once and removed the benefit a few years back to force people out before the deadline. d-mb. The person that made that call is the at the top of the stupid pile heap.
