Assessment season 2025 starts

Good luck everyone. Focus on what you can control. Remember showing up to Exxon is a choice.

You have the ultimate power in this relationship.

If you haven’t prepared and heavily rehearsed a 2-minute script for your “advocate”, you are being set up to fail.

Used every last letter in the WaEM survey text boxes to berate this caste system. I’m in O and still think it’s the most demoralizing performance system we could possibly come up with.

It is a popularity contest.
I have seen two people perform exactly the same job description to the same degree of success and the HiPo got RG 82 while the experienced hire that we all agreed did a slightly better job got RG 41.

When I tried to compare the two in the rank session, the VP forbid it and said that I could only compare the experienced hire with the person directly above and not anyone at the top.

To add insult to injury, a DEI person at bottom was given 27 points by HR after the session was over, with the excuse of reaching “target distribution”.

I heard that a manager in Asia Pac chairing sessions doesn’t allow anyone to use the 1-pagers prepared and everything has to be communicated verbally only. Is that allowed? Can HR vary the assessment process at the discretion of the chair ? Or is HR scared of the manager?

@aq...The answer that you'll get is that our system is based on a relative ranking. The issue is we never know what the denominator (normalization factor) is for our rank group. Ostensibly, others in our rank groups could have better performance than our own, moving us down. However, management uses the abiquity of the relative performance to raise the Hi Pos up at our expense. Welcome to the nightmare.

I have been ranked middle third , top third, excellent and outstanding. The system doesn’t work well. Anyone who says otherwise is full of cr-p.

I am consistently ranked outstanding, one time slipped to excellent. I don’t understand why all of you complain, the system works very well and is fair.

You poor performers should try working harder

Mediocrity not meritocracy. Exxon is mediocre. That's what they want the mediocre ki ss a-s es with no skills or talent to lead those with skills and talent. Remember exxon is bizaro world where everything is backwards. Nothing makes sense at this place.

Meritocracy my a$$

If it was a meritocracy why does my ranking change so much when I don’t change?

If it is a meritocracy why does hipos have sponsors who protect them and change their ranking outside of the assessment meeting if they don’t like the outcome of the meeting?

Yes the only control you have is either staying or leaving. Our ranking is out of our control. Once you know and accept this you will be free from worry and stress.
