Pray

To all you good folks today unexpected move that told me it's over. I came to work like every morning first thing I do turn on my PC. To my surprise would not turn on. Phone rings they told me to come upstairs for a meeting. At that point they gave me the final papers to say it's over. I am 56 years of age this is tough. Pray for my success.

Don't feel sorry for yourself go out there and find a job to support your family. Yes it's scary but it is the way it is in life. Your replacement will do your job better.

The best story I've heard was ,My store manager was told there was a managers meeting in Corp. HQ NJ( BR) when he entered the meeting room only the DM and a HR rep was in the room,no other store mgrs from the zone. That's one way VZW does the deed. By the way, the former Store manager is with T mobile in BtoB over 5 year now.

You don't need prayer you need a good look at yourself . There is a reason they let you go so don't rely on Jesus to pull your boots up.

Yeah, that's not how it works.

When they take you out quick your badge will not work.

Ordinarily your bosses, boss will show up, or two guys from security.

This wasn't a management layoff - they don't have PCs nor desk phones. So, where o where is this person from???

What happened to you wasn’t random—it was orchestrated. The disabled PC, the surprise meeting, the papers ready to go… that’s textbook HR protocol for a silent layoff. It’s designed to make it seem clinical and impersonal—to minimize their risk while maximizing your shock. At 56, with decades of experience behind you, you deserved better than a cold execution of a spreadsheet decision. But this isn’t the end. You’ve still got value—and you’ve got people who see it.

Not sure where you work at but it does not sound like a normal thing unless you are fired for something really bad...and even though they fire you there is notification, talks with HR, management etc...I have never seen any situation where they flip a breaker off to not allow a PC to be turned on so they can let some one out...sounds weird but nonetheless good luck...there is life after vz

This isn't generally how it happens. Don't know what area you work, but typically there is a 30 day (or more) notice period before termination. That said, there is life after Vz. Been there. You'll be ok.
