Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I'm now hoping for layoffs

The best way to be let out of my misery is with severance. If there are layoffs, I'll be praying I'm among those let go.

Verizon was an outstanding company to work for at one time. However, they are having a hard time trudging through DEI decisions that will ultimately cost them a committed workforce. The knowledge lost in just the last 8 years won't be restored any time soon but don't worry...AI has it covered. Solutions won't be abundant and sturdy unless they bring in new, knowledgeable leaders. A new V logo will not change anything.

It's been said here and in other posts, but the message keeps getting lost. Among the abused and unhappy people at Verizon are the ones who are chiefly keeping things on the rails. They are the ones who don't eat po-p and then lie and say it tastes like chicken. They are the ones fighting to make this place work - as a business, as a workplace for humans instead of a toxic, dehumanizing 19th century cigar factory. The people who have learned to "play the game" and smile/cheer while watching the destruction of the company and our values aren't the ones most likely to save it. It's the people who lose sleep at night that still care and put up a fight. So be careful what you wish for telling those people who are struggling, constantly on the fence, that they should just leave - "duh". AND btw, those people have as much right - maybe more - than anyone to sit in their chairs and get their paycheck until they decide to leave on their terms. If the severance matters to them, its a relevant choice. If they need their health benefits for a few weeks to get their head right, so be it. If they come on this board to get an honest sanity check instead of the rah rah gaslighting, I don't see the harm... unless they get bashed here too in addition to the workplace. These are not easy situations or easy choices.

It is really that simplistic. You are not getting any of the time back. If you hate here so much then it is time to leave. Isn't your time or your mental health worth more than 2 weeks per year? Some people stay in abusive toxic relationships because they are actually scared they can't find anything better. They are actually a dependent.

Maybe you are foolish to take the abuse just to get the payout, but then again, lots of people make exactly that choice: "Verizon is giving tons of employees VSP. When Hans leaves, having destroyed the company's value, FOR SURE he's going to get a golden parachute. I was here. I worked my tail off. I kept this company going with my sweat equity. Why should I leave with nothing but "my skills", when they are paying all these other folks TO leave? Shouldn't I get the going rate the market bears? They are also paying a bunch of folks to sit in management and do nothing but be abusive to the next person. What makes me worth LESS than them?" BTW - the government? Who was talking about the government on here? We're talking about Verizon. Hans. Infosys. McKinsey. Paying 3rd party consultants millions, but being unwilling to give your own employees raises. If you want to talk about "welfare queens", I'm sure you can find a site for that. We're talking about people who work and have earned the same compensation as anyone else at Verizon who WORKS. Only a small % actually do.

When you leave an abuser, you have the choice to be on your own. You aren't forced to get in a relationship immediately with someone new, who might ALSO be an abuser, just so you can restore aforementioned livelihood and medical benefits. I find your comparison simplistic.'

You are stupid to take the 'abuse' just to hopefully get the payout 'when' they let you go. Dragging yourself into the office and pretending it will be ok and hoping for a payout, not in the meantime learning other skills to get out of the 'abusive' situation. Don't worry, you will be taken care by the 'government' once they are finished abusing you. Sit back and just wait for the money to come in while you are being abused.

An abuse situation typically comes with some people who recognize it and want you to get out. You typically wouldn't be seeing 100's and even 1000's of people every day gaslighting you, exhibiting "stupid enthusiasm", cheering in up-to-speed videos, acting like everything is hunky dory even though they are ALSO being abused... Telling you on layoff sites to "Grow up", because you aren't able to sleep like a baby at night while knowing you and 100's are being abused. Instead of feeling solidarity - that we are all intelligent people with standards and self-esteem, in it together - people accept the abuse and even act like it's normal, filling out Pulse survey's and telling everyone how much they enjoy the beatings, all in the interest of holding on to the abusive situation. A person who has the sense to recognize they are being abused is made to feel isolated, like they are the only one who hasn't managed to figure out how to smile and take it like every other gaslighting fool. We should all be standing up to these aholes, striking, not clapping and cheering. Is it a surprise that people barely hanging on have to come here to anonymously seek out some kind of sense of community?

People make wise-@ss comments, but what they don't seem to realize is that the people who are burned fed up are the ones doing the most heavy-lifting. There are folks doing the jobs of 3 and even 5 personnel. Meanwhile, we've got tons and tons of parasites - people who are retired in place and contribute nothing. You know who you are. I'm not trying to insult those folks: it's a choice deciding you won't trade your effort for the meager benefits you get from the company as compared to what the execs are padding their little luxury nests with. BUT, don't insult the people that are working their tails off to keep things going and are at the end of their rope. Being burned out means those are the people who still CARE, who still TRY, who still WORK. Good luck to you all if those few people really do go and leave you all wallowing in this dysfunctional zoo.

It’s a great company, but one person can destroy the hope and optimism of so many people especially at senior exec level. Pound for pound, LB to LB, micromanaging power hoarding bullying leaders that intentionally create chaos to make all roads lead back to them need to be fired. Why have a huge team when you give them zero autonomy? Horrible leadership that is powered and empowered to wreak havoc.

I wasn’t hoping for this when it happened to me back in July, but now that I am well on the other side and rolling strong in my new career, I am pretty glad for the way it worked out. Freedom from the corporate prison can be pretty…well…freeing! Thanking Verizon for my 64 weeks of pay that I am still holding in the bank and wishing the best for you.
