Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What happened here?

I worked here many years ago and returned. All I can ask, what happened here? This place has been warped beyond recognition.

People smiling? Na we don’t do that here, this is misery incorporated with a completely destroyed corporate culture. Good luck, I can see the wear and despair on all your faces.

There is a deep sense of dread as people realize the culture is a layoff culture. In operational type areas especially where turnover is high. The people who work here long enough are survivors. Perhaps have developed a sort of survivors guilt. If you stay in one team for many years you may be the only one left. Sometimes you are old enough to be the parents of the replacements.

My team and I are the reason why the company is still above water. You were fired for not delivering on the same reasons. So of course we should get more to make up for failures like you. Fair is fair.

@fv+1jv4s0sxz why don't you worry more about what more you can give instead of what you used to get?

Not only did we used to get discounts from
Local businesses, we used to get gift awards from them as well as the medical coverage companies we signed up with who would grant you gift cards. Then, we used to get days off for giving blood and community service. Donating blood in the name of BNY 3 times a year used to get you a full day off with pay.
All gone. All no more… this place is a gulag now

So glad I got laid off a few years ago. People were miserable and it sounds like it's only gotten worse since then. I remember what a great place it used to be, prior to the merger. People loved snd were proud to work for Mellon and Mellon treated employees exceptionally well.

It seems like the 2008 recession shifted a lot corporations back to a "You're lucky to have a job" mindset and started dialing back perks and benefits. Remember we used to get those discount cards for local businesses? They became more obscure, then stopped altogether. Not to mention the health insurance coverage being offered. But better the devil you know...
