Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

You’re a longterm employee close to retirement age and want a package…

Can anyone provide any insight in to how to stack the cards in your favor?

Put a bug in your manager’s ear? Continue to do a great job so they want to take care of those who deserve it after years of excellent work? Slow down and do a poor job, but not so bad they can fire you?

There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to who gets the package and who doesn’t.

Do nothing. I was in that situation and hoped to get a package but do not forget YOU will cost them money and they will find any reason to terminate you. Thats what they did to me. The termination was so BS that the unemployment judge (yes they even fought that) was like 'they fired you for this?' and WF had no excuse to just keep the BS they used. Yes I got my unemployment. Me vs an actual WF attorney - yes that bad.

I hired an attorney - it took a bit over a year but after they realized I was not going away they settled - they should have just offered the package. Keep your mouth shut.

Same here, was told that if you ask, they will actually try to keep you so that you will quit voluntarily to save severance.

Figure that I win either way, as long as I get a meets.

Yeah I mentioned retiring to my boss and he said nope we don’t do that. Funny how 4 other people I our area who were retiring did get a package and one leader intentionally asked his team who is retiring so we can give them early retirement. Ethics issue perhaps????

They want to avoid severance at all costs. If they think you are close to retirement they might wait you out so you leave for free. Subtly mention that you plan to work until you're 75.

Do the work, but be slightly annoying to be around. Don’t kiss any buts, but don’t kick any either.

OP, I'm in the same boat as you. Unless you're buddies and trust your manager, I'd not go there. All we can do is pray! I stopped being an overachiever years ago, hopefully soon someone will take notice and give me the golden ticket outtahere.

The only thing that seems to be an option is to ask your manager. But if what we hear is true they don't really have much of a say and who stays and who goes. Location strategy is a different deal b/c that's on remote people to move or not.

And there doesn't seem to be much incentive to offer early retirement etc. b/c they can just pick who they want on a regular schedule.

Of course there's the idea that they wouldn't want to lose somebody b/c they're already lean/short on staff and performance is good.

If you fit this description, they want to performance manage you out instead of paying a severance. Unless you have humane management, which seems extinct these days, tread lightly and don’t go out by getting fired.
