Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Asked for health info?

What would you do if you were asked by someone in management about why you have an accommodation ?

I have several disabilities and feel like I may be targeted for this now?

So touchy these days. Maybe they are genuinely curious? Maybe they want to know so they can help? Everything doesn't have to be nefarious.

Well said. I’m so sick of everything having to go so politically correct now in business. Feelings take priority over profits everywhere now. I feel bad for investors, and even moreso, the end customer.

Say- why do you ask?

If they are just curious, you can let them know that this is making you uncomfortable and you do not want to share under ADA provisions.

If it is ignorance, say you will forward the contact for the representative to go over the information with them (again).

This is no different than asking a woman if she plans on ever getting pregnant during an interview-wildly inappropriate.

Thanks to the troll who assumes the accommodation is fmla time off. So dense.

Accommodations can even be down to wearing a visor at your desk for migraines due to the lighting.

You would reply “I have a medical accommodation approved by HR”. They may be asking the type of accommodation (medical, fmla, etc) so they can comply with it. Don’t assume a conspiracy that isn’t there.

Go ahead and get an accommodation. I guarantee you will move up in the organization. Even if you leave it won’t hurt your career objectives and you can play the same stupidgames at your next company. Lazy!

correct, point him to accomodations team which if they were doing their job would have had a conversation with him about their recommendation at the time approving it. that conversation would have been limited to their decision to approve and of their recommended accomodation would cause any issue. Manager does not need the health info and should be be requesting it from you although you nothing stopping you from sharing. also worth noting that accommodation requests are only valid within your current job so of you take an internal transfer with a other team you'll likely need to reapply.

Direct them to the accomodations team and leave it at that. Anything they legally need to know, they will provide.

With your disabilities I think what your manager needs to be with is you taking up payroll and consuming a full FTE permanently without ever having to work.

First, ask to record the conversation. I bet the subject will change.

I once had a supervisor ask me my race. Being multiracial, I rattled off a few. No harm no foul. Didn’t think anything of it at the time…

Tank that person for their concern, but tell that person it is not their business. I had a mgr ask me my retirement plans over lunch several times. Each time I smiled and said not their business. Also finally said told them they were out of bounds. Just don't engage.
