Cutting great employees

I'm wondering why they cut some of the best employees and kept some of the greatest mediocrity. Do you think that the managers were actually protecting their favorite workers by sacrificing those they dislike or is there some other reason why the good employees were cut while the bad ones survived?

Lot of tenured people like myself got cut and we was the ones with access to all the tools and such in addition to fixing all the big problems the newer employees can't.
There is going to be almost nobody around now to fix any issues that is not a simple cable issue. I see MTTR going through the roof year after year

You can be a great employee but don't take part of the great group hug you will be on the way out - nothing ruined VZ more then shutting down constructive conversations.

HR could not cut all the ringers without cutting some blue chippers. It has been said that HR has two dart boards. One with ringers only and one with blue chippers only. HR throws equal number of darts at each board. If your name is darted you are done. It's the only fair way to do it.
