Is HR there to protect me or to protect Verizon?

The only purpose of HR is to prevent the company from being sued and meet hiring quotas based on all things other than performance.

I had a "confidential" conversation with HR about the manager making each person explain where they grew up and the percentage of minority friends they had from childhood until current day. HR agreed with me that is should not happen and within 2 days my boss knew all about the HR discussion. HR is a bigger joke than Verizon

HR is def there for store sales reps. There are so many examples across 2 zones where employeees have abused attendance policy and behavioral conduct.

Sorry, but I believe that is a naive question. HR are there to protect the employer/Company, ensure policies compliance and prevent/reduce/manage possible litigation cases. Everything else, especially what they want you to believe they do for you is simply baseless.

HR is always there for the employer, not the employee. It’s the same at every business, not just Verizon.

Protecting Verizon. You are the resource they are managing. Expect to be treated like an unruly cow on a farm.

When I asked a retirement related question the immediate response was to "make my manager aware of my plans". Based on that response I'd say HR is not concerned with protecting me
