Verizon ending DEI programs as it seeks US approval for Frontier deal

(Reuters) -Verizon Communications (VZ) said Friday it is ending DEI — diversity, equity and inclusion programs after the Trump administration opened a probe and as the U.S. telecom carrier seeks approval to purchase Frontier Communications.

Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr in February criticized Verizon for its promotion ofDEI programs and said it could be a factor in the Frontier deal.

Verizon said in a letter to Carr seen by Reuters the company was removing its “Diversity and Inclusion” website and removing references to DEI from employee training and making other changes to hiring, career development, supplier diversity and corporate sponsorship practices.

If VZ is ending DEI programs, why did employees get a “ready to celebrate Pride month” email this morning?

While this is a step in the right direction, Trump should hammer VZ for it's reliance upon H1-Bs. Way too many Indians throughout this organization making it a Homeland Security risk.

'This isn’t just about DEI. It’s about credibility. A leadership team that bends whichever way the wind blows can’t be trusted to chart a course through disruption. It’s no wonder the company is spinning its wheels, shedding talent, and losing market position.

Verizon doesn’t have a DEI problem. It has a vision problem. A spine problem. A leadership problem.'

Exactly

Verizon just made it official: it’s abandoning its much-touted diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs to win regulatory approval for the Frontier acquisition. Let’s be clear—this isn’t about policy. It’s about posture.

For years, employees were lectured on DEI as a “core value.” Now, with an FCC approval on the line, those values have vanished overnight. The same leadership team that built entire playbooks around DEI is now scrubbing the website, canceling training, and eliminating any incentives tied to diversity hiring.

This isn’t leadership. It’s bargaining.

What we’re witnessing is a company talking out of both sides of its mouth—trying to appease federal regulators while pretending nothing’s changed internally. But employees see the whiplash. Investors sense the inconsistency. And the message is clear: Verizon will trade its values if the price is right.

This isn’t just about DEI.

A leadership problem.

Verizon bows down just like the rest of them. Shocked? No. They never cared about DEI it was just the "thing" to do at the time.
