When asked about outsourcing roles to foreign countries a senior manager became offended by the question and said it doesn't qualify as outsourcing because they're being hired at Wells Fargo...

Learning and Development has both WF employees based in India and are also using NIIT employees based in India.
I don't care what it's called, it su-ks and their work product is garbage. Ditto most domestic contractors as well. Want good product? Hire people that truly care. You don't get either from I or contractors.
What WF is doing is offshoring, not outsourcing
it is still a separate company. last I checked they aren't part of Wells Fargo na.
Typical manager missing the point and hiding behind semantics.
Your manager has allegiance to India over the U.S.
If they are Wells Fargo-badged employees, it isn't outsourcing. Isn't that more accurately described as having a "global workforce"?
Ask them about tariffs. Seeing tariffs can be levied on goods and services coming into the US.
Also, instead of raising taxes on US employees, how about raising tariffs (taxes) on foreign employees. The bank and leadership are getting all the privileges of being a US based bank, and the gov is getting shorted by not getting the taxes on the US based employees.
Number of branches in India = 0
Cost of using Indian labor 25%
Gaslighting all your employees doing the real work = priceless
There are plenty of other things you could call it, as well. The name doesn’t really matter. In theory finding people that can do the work at 1/4 of the price might lead to more efficiency as a financial ratio/metric. However, it does absolutely nothing for “efficiency“ in a classic sense. Things are decidedly not more efficient with “offsourcing”.
It's a script. Like they say it's "augmented staff", not a replacement for onshore workers. Got to make people write their job aids.
They are right. Outsourcing specifically means you take a function or services delivered internally and hire a 3rd party to take it over. Moving work to your own employees in another city or country is not outsourcing.
Well, that's true, rephrase the question to offshoring
