Glory days, well they'll pass you by
Glory days, in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days

Verizon's current business model is not sustainable. Verizon needs a sugar daddy and a massive change in leadership, otherwise it's curtains.

TMUS $73B in long term debt with revenue $68B 🤡 🤡🤡

Verizon $132B in long term debt with revenue $133B

AT&T $128B in long term debt with revenue $168B

It's possible, but certainly not while Hans is in charge. Just look at Ericsson, it's doing much better after he left.

You couldn't drive a block and not see a Bell Telephone van, you remember o.d. green on the bottom, white on the top, ochre and blue stripes in the middle. Wow, those were the days!

I miss the old telephone company. It was a great time to be alive. It's just not the same, it's taken a turn for the worse.

Glory daze for telecom, 1970's through 1980's. Remember before going to modular, a tech would visit your home and replace a line cord or handset cord free of charge! Seems unbelievable today!

Really? I wasn't aware that TMUS had any major debt. Tell us more.

all 3 major carriers have so much debt? Why would anyone buy them to take on 132 billion of debt? It would have to be a fire sale

Glory days were when we were a regional monopoly pots provider

The product is a commodity. VZ already shot multiple loads trying to pivot to products enabled by wireless (go90, Oath, 5G fantasy “products” ). As it stands they are left competing with T-Mobile and ATT on costs and customer service (I include competitive bill plans, retail ops here). The big elephant in the room is the huge debt load and need to pay high dividends. I worked in the industry for over 20 years until taking VSP in 2019 (Pac Bell, SBC, VZW) Even from the days of DSL the big players have had dreams of capturing value from higher level services (Yahoo, then Google, FB, AMZN, Netflix, Tiktok, whatever is next). It has never happened because IMHO these kinds of businesses are not in the DNA/wheelhouse of your typical telecom exec or employees for that matter. If VZ can innovate to reduce costs significantly over the competition they could maybe hope to post some modest growth. One game changer could be if say one of the big player’s getting squeezed by Apple bought them out to offer their users almost “free” phones and service - I’m thinking FB, Google, AMZN - then they could own the devices and the network.

At Verizon, the best days can be best viewed in the rearview mirror. Verizon will never recover, way too much debt, $136B. You can't make this stuff up.

Retail total comp was way too high. Maybe that comp made sense when Verizon could set the prices. White collar salaries will continue to go up. However, so will offshoring.

But to the OP, unless Verizon rolls out telekinesis (smartphone implants or some other AR), I think their profits will continue to drop.

Nobody pays top dollar for 2G or an iPhone 1, even if it's brand new... Smartphones are essentially that at this point.

There are currently 91 people with the title SVP in the company. I don’t think it’s the lower ranks that are inflated.

They are over. The current CSuite is on a mission to deflate salary and benefits. They already did it to retail employees and now they are moving to white collar jobs.
