Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Absorbing work from positions that are cut

I can't believe that the management is counting on the people who are still here to absorb all the work of those who have been cut or left. How much has your workload increased lately? This company really doesn't know when enough is enough, right? There is only one conclusion to be made: don't walk, run from here!

It’s really too bad that T gets itself in positions of constant turmoil and adversity! Sounds like it has a very serious management problem or lack thereof! T needs to hire someone from outside the industry to really take a hard look at T and see where improvements can be made and get this once great icon back on track!

Quit wasting time on this board and get back to some of the additional work in your queue. You clearly have time to spare!

Classic do more with less. I just saw someone say on LinkedIn that they were happy to announce that they now had a bunch of new responsibilities in addition to the onerous responsibilities they had. You didn’t get promoted. Why announce this happily? You technically got a big pay cut. You are doing twice the work for the same pay. Congratulations. lol

You're not on a "team"
Management would prefer you got hit by a bus before work.
Stop with the BS corp. speak.
It's a job.
You work, they pay.
Nothing more.
They don't give a rodents behind about you, your aspirations, ideas, family, health, bills, etc.
You are an expense to them, a tool, and as soon as they can get rid of you the better for them. And they try-every day.
So pathetic.

A few years back SBC offered 5+5+2 and 3 from my group and 3 from another 2nd level group took the offer. Called into meeting & my 2nd line assigned me the work of her 2 that left and the other 2nd level assigned me the work of 2 of his vacancies. So now I'm doing the work of 4 people along with my work and I already had a huge workload.
Went back to my office made a phone call, found a new job which was a promotion to 2nd level and my original id--t boss told me & my work buddies that I wasn't going anywhere as she expected me to work (I guess) 24 x 7. When she did get word that I was now a 2nd level she tells me that I have to work my old job 3 days a week and my new job 2 days a week. I did both for 2 mos., then went to new job location & never came back to old job. That F'n. B. (itch) tracks me down and has the gaul to threaten me so I told her to call my President level - I'm gone, I'm now the same level, I'll answer any of her questions but I'M NOT COMING BACK.

The questions that should be asked 1) does the work really need to be absorbed if there is not a value add or return. 2) what current tasks/duties can be cut to help absorb those additional asks? 3) re-tooling and re-think your day-to-day activities is required with you're having to do more with less.

My 7th level stated he expected the remaining employees to absorb the work of the masses the Stink will wack during his last Townhall. And those that leave will train them. Yeah right, I am not training anyone.

The Stink can kiss my @ss!

You get what you deserve staying at Toxic-T. Didn't you get the Stink's memo to go pound sand?

They can assign every job in the state to me.
Don't care. I'm still going home at 4:30.
It's not my problem.

You either are on a Team where there is not enough time in the day to make a dent in your work load or you are lucky like many where you have barely any work where you just receive a ticket, sit on it pretending to be making calls and sending emails before closing out without any real concrete resolution because you know you can get away with it. I have seen this from a couple of long timers who have been with T for almost 40 years and they landed in our Org and they hit the jackpot as they are now in a growth area where rest of team is working in overdrive to try and take care of the customers despite all the roadblocks while they sit all day waiting for a hand full of tickets that a two year can resolve. Then the same agents turn around complaining about off shoring of work every time there is talk of layoffs. Do they not understand that if I can pay someone pennies on the dollar in Slovakia or India who can do the same job for someone making over 100K in NJ, offshoring makes a lot of business sense and maybe protects the US based worker who does show up to do actual work. But these agents are safe as their mgmt and leadership needs to keep the headcount to justify their existence.

@1uaf+1jw9Ssxz - you cannot simply look at the total employee count without knowing why it was reduced. As mentioned below in many cases the reduction occurred because of assets sold and in those cases the work left the company.

@1uaf+1jw9Ssxz - Down 12%. How much of that is because of WM, Xandr and the other parts that were given away? In the case of those pieces the work went with the people so it is irrelevant to the OPs post

I won't break my a$$ for anyone, T included! I'm an older employee, therefore, if it takes me twice as long to do a job that a younger employee can do, then have the younger employee do it and let me relax! There's a lot of employees taking it easy out there and doing as little as possible!

We are down 22% of our employees. We are a growth sector, as well. No sign of backfills happening until 2023….maybe we are told. I know if worked being pushed to another country this month, as well.
For a lot of older employ it’s the pension that keeps them. Some are also lazy, so theres that too. But I’m not judging because everyone is in a different situation personally and professionally.

With the focus on “have been cut or left”. To date there have been no significant layoffs in the last two years. Tell us what you have observed that causes you to say aA”have left”. That suggests you have seen a significant amount of people leave. I am curious to know where that happened.

This has been ongoing for 20+ years. Take your 1-3% raise and like it. For many at T it will be the first time they will experience a full workload. T is full of lazy freeloaders.

Most management employees are overpaid for their current skill level. Leadership knows this and also realizes most won’t leave, so it’s a win-win for both parties. It ends up being a symbiotic relationship between the executive level and management.
