Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AI is going to eliminate at least half of the jobs at T

Even if that is proves to be wrong, it's still a great story for Wall Street.

C'mon Stank, offer a voluntary severance of 3 weeks pay for every year of service. The stock price will double and most us will jump off the good ship T.

3weeks for every year, I’d leave. Sounds kinda like the offer Verizon made to their employees last year.

A union contract. Safe from AI.

More like “installing copper and fiber requires using my hands safe from AI”

Forget the chips, we don’t have the power grid to support enough AI to eliminate 1/2 of the jobs.

The only people it will put out of work are the 3rd worlders. The same US workers who have to be paid to fix everything they mess up will still have to fix everything the AI messes up. AI is a real disaster for India.

Administrative tasks yes. The rest is a mess. Keep in mind most of att databases are flawed with inaccuracy with numerous systems. AI/Automation will assist with bad decisions based on bad data

Depends on the org, what they do, and who’s driving (3rd level).

I can tell you this. My org is full speed ahead with ai and I can see us losing 50% by end of the year.

Blah blah blah AI buzzwords taking jobs blah blah. It’s all noise. People will adapt if they deserve to be doing what they do.

Naw. Stink will just close an office in Anaheim and announce their job is now in Harlem NY - move if you want your job - otherwise you quit.

“ C suite is clueless how AI really works. They’ve been sold a bill of goods that eliminates headcount, cuts costs, etc. that’s the lie that’s been sold.”

Yep. It’s part of the cottage industry hype train.

Just look up what happened to klarna - went AI and now reversing and hiring since they are losing millions to people not trusting AI or being frustrated with the AI answers.

C suite is clueless how AI really works. They’ve been sold a bill of goods that eliminates headcount, cuts costs, etc. that’s the lie that’s been sold. Anyone that works with AI knows it’s not really going to take any job. It enhances what you do if you use it. It can reduce the time it takes to write a doc, create a PowerPoint or report. Really it helps you do your job a bit faster and a bit better. It improves accuracy and efficiency. But yeah, shiny object, jump on bandwagon, then realize yeah this doesn’t do what we think it does we still need people with knowledge and skill to manage these things and do the work. Typical executive and sales team garbage.

"A union contract. Safe from AI."

As someone who has been budgeting for those union jobs, it is interesting that the union head count shrinks every year. But you are safe . . .

People who have no clue about what AI even is, stop with the threats about having your job replaced! You are clueless! T will still need paper pushers and phone reps and field technicians and supervisors and fiber locators and CO techs! There is a need for certain jobs T can’t be without. If you write code or software, then yes, you’ll most likely be replaced. Only a small percentage of Ts personnel does those jobs or a lot is even outsourced. Otherwise, take a chill pill a stop with the negativity, please!
