Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

WF needs to hurry up with AI

Where are the agents? The chatbot is cute, but where are the useful tools? How is it that there are businesses out there who have automated substantial portions of their business with agents and we are using silly chatbots? Get with it execs.

They have great support for it for developers. I use it all the time. Probably even underuse it. Great for quickly building new things or esp boilerplate in Java.

Wells is waiting for the other than AI to drop so that they can buy into that as well. Remember this bank has to buy two of everything. Gotta move stuff to two clouds, two MLM, Mide and Mode, etc. The C&C bully management will move slowly -- making sure they are not loosing control. So they will stay in the chat realm. I am sure agentic AI scares the sh...t out of them. They have built their careers "supporting" these redundant, highly coupled, intricate systems. They won't give up easily. And they are good at not giving it up. Look what they did to agile transformation and cloud migration.

We'll find a way to f**k this up too. It seems like there's been hiring across the different tech areas to do LLM work. But from what I've seen so far it seems like we're not moving that fast and of course there's the mental circlej--kof agents, servers, etc. etc. Watch, we'll spend all sorts of time and money on nonsense and make little progress while claiming victory for things that aren't even that good.

WF will be behind in agentic AI because AI is a threat to the C&C management. So far they have thwarted the cloud migration, agile transformation and They are the cause of inefficiency yet they don't get laid off in as much proportion as the individual contributors get laid off. C&C management, fear AI, automation, team empowerment, open platform enablement, digitization of money and all efficiency measures. as @aq+1jwhdvdxm says "as soon as they "automate substantial portions of the business", they're going to rapidly accelerate layoffs, right?" They fear and at least by their inaction and resist agentic AI, which depends on the rewiring of the bank, which depends on cloud/platform development. McKinsey and others have been talking about this for years-- you need to rewire for agentic AI in order for the bank to achieve the major benefit of AI. BAC, JPM and others are well ahead of WF. WF now has Copilot for teams. Now you can make your meetings more efficient. BFD. BE sure has her work cut out for her.

I tried out Copilot in Teams today and was not at all impressed. Not sure how it could possibly improve my productivity. Asked it to summarize all my chats regarding one topic and it responded that it didn’t know what a chat was.

@aq absolutely. The faster, the better. Then society will be forced to deal with the fallout.
