Thread regarding IBM layoffs

One in each group on coaching plan

My site director required each manager to pick one person to put on a coaching plan starting this week. He said to pick who you would pick if the new system for year end were in place now and even teams of five had to pick someone. Is anyone seeing anything like this?

@jp Seems like Alvind is leading IBM akin to Roman Emperors circa 450-476 AD

I was wondering what was going on. I did a bunch of security work for my team recently and then I was told I was being labeled as a "low performer" due to optics. Guess it really means I will be gone whether I want to leave or not.

The historical / original definition of decimate is "To punish an army by ki-ling 1/10 of its soldiers." It comes from a Roman tradition of punishing the armies of rebellious generals in order to cripple them and break their morale.

IBM management has been very successful in breaking morale here. Maybe they should have stopped at 1/10 and not continue on to 1/5 now.

What a garbage thing to do in a garbage company. Finally starting to get punished by Wall Street for not actually growing the pie at all. Just making it look bigger by cutting away the box that holds it up. HR is not your friend - they’re just an arm of the legal department. She has zero talent at anti g other than trying to make herself famous. And Alvind, RT and the rest of the flock of intellectual and moral gimps are absolute garbage human beings.

What BUs/depts are we talking about? Have not seen this in mcc but given the pig animals who run it I’m sure it’s coming.

The HR email to me and my boss claims that 72 percent of people put on PIPs at ibm get off but in my team 100 percent have been fired

ok, so that's one more step before getting out... That gives people additional time to look for a job elsewhere and secure something. Very few people have survived a PIP, if you get on one that is clear that you are no longer wanted at the IBM Company. If that is not clear to you, not sure what would!

This is a disgusting company, but all large companies do this these days!

FLM here. About 3 years ago, we had to pick 1 person per team to put on pip with the secret message that the aim was to trim the headcount (the pips were pure theatrics). The optics were so bad, ‘coz ppl with good checkpoints were all the sudden labeled low performers (and then let go). Since then every year we put 1 or 2 ppl on coaching, and mark at least 1 of their “dimensions” as growth opportunity. That way it looks “better” once they go on pip. They are eventually let go, to get a backfill in India. We all participate in this charade. To the point that managers also go on coaching, pip, and out.
