Severance pay would be the best way out for me. Unfortunately, this company usually cuts employees who care about keeping their jobs, rather than those who hope to get cut. Do you think that there are more people who hope to be targeted than those who would like to survive?

Cut me Mick.
A lot of people have more mouth than brains. You know them.. They talk a lot but they don't do much.
A job is better than no job. I’d like to leave on my terms and get the 6 months severance. Just don’t jump out of the pan and into the fire. I’ve worked at places 10x worse than ATT. Most people I know that left are trying to get back in after a few years at other places. No it’s not great here, but let me tell you, it can be SO much worse. I don’t plan on leaving unless it’s a much better company to work for and it has a significantly better pay.
I had such a horrible manager who put me in such a sh---y job I was praying to get surplussed. I did. Homelife has improved 100%.
I've never seen a company so focused on keeping employees down and pigeon-holed without the possibility of even lateral moves as I've seen at AT&T. There are no leaders at AT&T, only a-s-kissing brown-nosers bent on keeping their own selves employed any way they can.
Original thought and process improvement are unheard of at T. It's all "tow the line", "don't rock the boat", "do as you're told" bullsh-t comparable to working in communist Russia or North Korea.
T is certainly led by a megalomaniac, just like North Korea's Kim Jong Un, or Russia's Vladimir Putin.
If they would offer the same severance to veterans who are close to ready that the 20-25 year employee gets, white heads would be exiting like a mental hospital that opened the gates.
You are free to leave at any time. Encouraged actually,
100% certain... the majority of employees prefer survival.
