Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Stop already!

Could we kindly refrain from utilizing "matrix" reporting? A Manager overseeing 12 or fewer reports does not require an additional individual to “play” the role of Manager alongside them.

@fk

Anyone who comes here to make fun of someone’s post needs to look in the mirror and realize you are the real troll.

It is fun to come here and read the ramblings of the foolish like @OP. Because you experienced it must mean everyone has the same terrible experience.

@d5 and @dz have it right. I have no doubt there are sham situations here but I have been lucky in that my managers have always been in the thick of it. While never “official” positions, if they hadn’t delegated aspects of management to us in the team it would have hampered all of us. So if I can charge time to answering a JIRA freeing up our manager to address something more important who cares?

Work is work. Paycheck is a paycheck.

most managers are working managers having to do just as much if not more than their employees. let's see you do your current workload plus regular one on ones for 12 people, plus helping them develope, plus writing perf reviews, team meetings, on top of whatever meetings their manager has them doing. people who think managing here is easy have never managed. most are just trying to do a good job, donl what they're told, keep their employees happy, and go home at the end of the day.

The response 'Ok' is an ideal reply. I will venture to assume that you are one of the 'play' managers who has four or five individuals matrixed to them, and you take great pleasure in this arrangement. I would guess that you require that level of authority to make you feel superior to the people you “play” manager to.

There's plenty of "individual contributors" who can't do their job without the help of someone else on a daily basis.
