Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Question: In your opinion, which is considered the better employee by management??

The employee who wants a severance package and gets it, or the employee who wants a severance package and doesn’t get it?

Let’s see. Retire and be free or gamble years of my life. I will retire. These arguments are baseless because few people make retirement decisions like this. If you hit your mark then you retire. If you are awaiting a year of free health insurance and severance that is pretty dang short sighted IMO. You have a better chance of getting g worked out for poor performance. Now I know of one lady who worked an extra 6 months for her silly bonus to build a pool. That was a joke. And then worked another 29 days to get a month’s worth of LI. The prioritization by some people puzzles me.

At least in tech.... You don't get laid off because you're not performing. You get laid off because there is nothing for the employer to assign to you to do. In the past, management would create "make-work" projects to assign to you. I wonder how many project and system trackers are used at WF. The bank is full of all kinds of barely maintained, useless, and redundant applications.

I think the question is concerning retirement-age employees. Many older employees are still working at the bank only because they want to get severed and walk away with that package of one year’s pay vs retiring on their own accord and not getting the package. Those who didn’t get a package this last go-around are still left working.

In my opinion, if the bank is willing to pay to get you out: that means you are no longer performing. But I do think some managers/directors were able to arrange a deal on the side for themselves.

OP- Anyone getting laid off is gone the same day and their access cut off. So, they are not "announcing their retirement" and leaving as heroes. Everything about your premise is ridiculous.

I thought anyone getting laid off gets severance. It just varies based on years of service. I don't really understand the question.

OP here explaining my question: The bank is full of longterm employees near retirement age who are still working only because they are hoping to walk away with a one year severance package. Some in our division have been getting the package and some have not. The employees who did get a package and then “announced their retirement” act as if they are the more valued employees because management took care of them near the end of their careers. I view a severance package as the bank wanting an employee gone so I don’t understand the superior attitude of those who got the package.

I guess I don't understand why an employee who did, or didn't get severance when they are laid off would give a sh1t what maangement thinks about them.
Either way they are laid off and it's obvious to any that is either laid off, or still at wellsfargo.
Management does not give a SH1T about you

I don’t understand the question. Why would a person who wanted a severance but didn’t get one be better than someone who did get one? Obviously it’s probably not fun to tell someone they are laid off without a severance. Why would that be better?
