Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Laid off!

Hey guys, I’m wondering what you think about how long I should just try to get my mind right?

My husband died of cancer recently and a couple other of my family members died. I just got recently laid off and I’m just wondering.

I have a year of severance and every moment I wake up, I’m thinking of a job, but I’m also thinking I should give myself some reprieve.

What are your thoughts on the timing on that?

Grieving af!

Last time I was laid off...I was on the phone the same hour.

Please take your time to grieve appropriately. Your mental state is the most important part of you. It took me four months to find a job once I started looking. Enjoy this time to get your mind right and be good to yourself.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss(es).

As others have said, since you're on non-working notice period, take the 1st month (you're getting paid) and you clear your head before leveraging all technologies to polish up your resume.

Are you on a 60 day non-working notice? I navigated that time by giving myself a 30 day break, then use the next 30 days to work on resume/applications (you lose your severance if you take a job during the notice period, so not a huge rush).

Having said that, everyone is different, and you’ll know when you’re mentally ready and have processed all the life changes you’re going through. Truly wishing you the best.

You can make use of the company EAP program to discuss all these life decisions. They may have some advice that will help with your plan. I was displaced last year and decided since no work breaks since I was 18, I would take the year and then do a job search.

Life is short, take care of yourself. Take some time to enjoy and don't feel guilty about it. Make sure you rest, rest is king.

Go a cruise with a friend. You deserve to rest first, then decide next steps.

@bd+1jwt3s6yx - AND YET H1Bs are full steam ahead... amazing how tone deaf leadership is.

You’re on vacation for June. Take a month off and then hit the job trail in July.

Take care of yourself. You probably could benefit from some combination of a therapist, career counselor, or financial advisor versus taking advice from an anonymous message board.

I'm always looking, even while employed.

You actually have to ask this here?

Brush off your resume, start reaching out to everyone you know….
Start looking, you can always negotiate starting date. Sorry for your losses. Your mind will be happier if you don’t sit and stew.

The job market is brutal right now. It could take a year to find something new. Take a few weeks off to get your mind right then start getting your resume together and applying.

What is your monthly burn rate? Any way to rent the house out, move somewhere, maybe with a friend, and spend 6 months to a year in reflection and gratitude? Doing soul work somewhere with a lower cost of living. The rate race isn’t going anywhere. And if does, we’re all on UBI anyway.

I’m so sorry.

I think that’s a completely personal and subjective decision that would be different for everyone. I would personally take 2-3 weeks to relax then start really looking for a job.
