Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

No training, no support

I came in with a lot of hope, expecting real training and support. Instead, I’ve spent months trying to figure everything out on my own, with no real guidance. The workload keeps piling up, and I’m completely drained. Now, I’m just counting the days until I can move on to something better.

The bank makes you complete the numerous required "training classes" that have absolutely nothing to do with your role. You will never receive actual training in any role you have, that pertains to your actual job. Then if you can't figure it out, even if you have zero experience, you're rated below expectations or partially met. If you're over 50, they use it as an excuse to let you go. God forbid they actually train you.

Exactly! There was absolutely no training. I had the manager assigned actually scoff at me when I asked for help and said to just read the SOPs. They were poorly written and out dated by at least 5 years. The screen shots didn’t match up. I was working 12 hour days, even trying to catch up on weekends. At least I was laid off as I was last in first out - got met expectations, got a raise and bonus, met the training and days in office. Everyone needs to stop working OT unless you get paid for it. OP I feel your pain! It was exactly the same when i joined the bank 8 years ago. Left to figure things out for myself, very little support. The biggest joke for me was when my then manager asked me to support a new joiner 8 weeks after starting.

We've had a lot of senior technical people retire recently. RTO was the final push for most of them.

It's already a problem for some clients, who are asking for people who actually know how to find and fix issues, not just write them up and pass them along indefinitely.

Training?
Training costs money. Training is best done with people dedicated and experienced with it. Training takes time. Robin thinks this is a waste. Robin also thinks good people getting paid what they deserve is a waste.

This is not a new issue that has been compounding. You can’t remove a static tenured workforce over three years without severe brain drain.

Move on, there is no indication this sort of thing is even a concern to the leaders, many seem to assume they will be gone by the time there are newsworthy failures

@OP I am in the same boat so I completely understand. It’s been absolute chaos with no guidance, no role clarity. In my small organization we have three people trying to do the exact same job. Now my job has become a dumping ground for all the work that no one else wants to do. It’s exhausting. I’m counting the days until I can move on. Hopefully soon.
