Terminated for Policy Violation

Would BNY HR share reasons for termination or any other data (e.g., eligible or not eligible for rehire) with new employer during employment verification process that may prevent you from being hired by new employer? Has anyone been let go ‘for a cause’ such as policy violation and can share their experience? Thanks.

No they will not. I was fired for “coffee badging.” My new employer knew why I was fired because I told them. BNY did not disclose information about my firing, just confirmed my time of employment. I had manager approval to swipe in and then go home so I had no shame in explaining my situation in interviews.

No, bny will only confirm employment details. Not performance details which is ridiculous when any new job wants you to give references

The letter S means severance. Your employment ended the moment you got served with SUB. That’s the same day they ki-l your access and terminate your employee status. So if that happened in January, your resume should say employed at BNY until Jan 2025.

@dv I was paid SUB every week for 6 month. Can I say I was employed thru the end of the SUB payment since I was on the payroll?

@af officially & legally, they can't. But HR people know eachother, and know friends who say, do you know this person? And if anything negative is said, whether it is true or not, you are out of contention for that new job.

@bj Were you given 2 weeks pay prior to Sub Pay? If so, use the date of the last day of those two weeks, otherwise use your Separation Date.

@a2 What end date should I put in my resume? Should it be my layoff date or the last date I was on the payroll for SUB?

Only information HR can share with a prospective employer calling them is your position and start/ending dates. Anything else and your attorney could have a field day with them.

Whether or not you're eligible to come back to BNY Mellon (yikes!!!) is an information kept by HR internally.

They cant do that, just confirm employment and dates of employment.
They cant say we fired that person for XYZ and they are on a "do not rehire" list.
