Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Twitter

Glad Donavan is gone. Otherwise he would have tried to hire laid off Twitter employees for his twisted org vision.

Yes, the old timers have carried this company. The downside now is when they expect the newer employees to carry the same load they did, for far less reward.

To old bitter guy OP. The sad reality is that old timers have done very well, and they have nothing to complain about. The cost of senior leadership mishaps will be born by todays workers.

The DTV and Warner acquisitions did not fail until the Board picked Stankey to be the CEO instead of Donovan. This is likely related to the fact that our Board doesn't have experience with tech companies. They know FCC regulations, capital management, health insurance, and trains. It's not the type of experience you would expect to succeed at transforming from a utility into an advertising company. Not at all.

Dono may have been right in theory, but like so many other executives he failed in execution. He became drunk with power, forgot about the little people, outsourced critical task, and like another OP stated, spent too much time attempting to be a Don Juan.

The ironic thing is that Bellhead leadership caused the DTV and Warner acquisitions and the Xandr to fail. If we had been able to pivot to a software mindset we could have led those groups to success. Instead we tried to incorporate media and advertising into the old project mindset of putting cable in the ground and installing hardware at LECs.

In that world it's completely accepted that a customer will request an f-ticket to get home internet, when our database is wrong. How can a company that doesn't view the service availability database as part of the home internet product ever going to manage to sell ads effectively? Did we expect the ad buyers to tell is how to fix our data to properlt target their ads?!?

Donovan was right. Now we pay the price for being wrong.
