Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Medical

Has anyone applied for a medical accommodation and wound up being re-assigned out of their current role. if so how was the experience/process. I have been holding out out of fear, peers have told me that i am risking having a job?

@3ah let us know what you decide or what they offer? I am in a similar situation with nowhere to turn.

@3ah
If they are providing you a position i would. But like prior post said it’s not guaranteed? So not sure

@OP I am in a similar situation. They want me to move to a new role that is technically a lateral move but more like a demotion because they said they can’t accommodate my request but will provide me a different role as an accommodation. Any updates? I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet either.

You’re not guaranteed a position. 30 days of the job search is paid. Next 30 is unpaid. If they still haven’t found something then you’re let go. It’s not something I’d recommend.

Medical accommodation isn't a benefit it's the law. You need to research as someone already posted below. You can be darn sure DEI be damned, BAC wouldn't have any if it were up to them. If you really are eligible as defined by the Feds, BAC will probably let it slide through. If you're just trying to get a freebie, then shame on you

I had a medical accommodation and it was fairly easy to obtain but then I got let go due to “national layoffs”. It didn’t do squat for for me other than not force me in more than 3 days.

I was actually told by my manager that management is no longer allowed to automatically approve medical accommodations anymore and that HR would now be handling the approval process.

Please know your rights. Eeoc.gov. if they retaliate against you bc you have a medical condition, you have rights to sue. Of course you have to prove this. The bank spins things around and may say you had a sudden drop in productivity. I've seen this happen to people who had Exceeds ratings for 10 years then all of the sudden they are on a performance plan. If your manager doesn't like you, you need to gtfo quick. Speaking from experience.

@dn Accommodation is typically required by law.

I'm under a medical accommodation that is set to expire soon. I've had no issues with it. It was fairly easy to put in place and management approved. Workload only increased after that but I think it was bound to increase despite the accomodation.

A fellow team member has a medical accomodation and has had it for many, many years. We were working from home long before covid hit. Continued at home until mandated about a year ago. This person was told it is only 3 days a week and should not be a problem to come in. Wrong they said. This accomodation does not go away 2 days a week and it has been active for many, many years. After a series of conversations, their work load was less and less (yet others remained steady). This person was laid off a few moths ago and did get a package. It was down right dirty how it all played out. Personally, I would have fought it - they are not. So, be careful.

I have worked from home since 2020. The department i was under transferred everyone to different LOBs. I have asked my manager about my situation and the response is always i should be grateful to have a job despite my medical concerns. I can show medical documentation with no issue, but the feedback is not very positive. I have been told if i go through the process and my LOB cannot accommodate, id essentially be quitting the role and it’s not guaranteed they can find me a new one.

You get a doctors note. have the doctor fill out the form and reason. Manager needs to approve it. It can be up to a year and possibly extended. Very easy but not sure about being reassigned. I would say it depends on your role if it is capable of being remote. Does your manager want you in office?
