Thread regarding United Healthcare layoffs

MN and DC employee RTO in July

Just heard that Minnesota and DC based employees will be required 4 days a week starting in July.

The security traffic jam will be unbearable.

At least the collaboration in the tiny boxes they call cubicles will finally fix the medical cost trend issues!

I've heard there are two locations that will RTO next as well. One is in CA, the other in NV. It's only a matter of time until we're all asked to return to an office we've never been to.

I was hired on as full telecommute, so have never been in an office. I heard yesterday that so far the RTO is only impacting those with hybrid schedule, but the eventual plan is to expand to all remote employees. They will continue bringing people in proximity to the two current locations back in, but they already have two more locations in mind for expansion. They are looking at concentration of employees surrounding various UHG facilities, and intend to ramp up accordingly.

Our VP told us on Thursday the 26th that it is only hybrid employees in the DC and Minneapolis regions. The reason given was that the vast majority of these hybrid employees who were supposed to be in office three days a week we’re barely in office one day a week. These people ki-led the goose that laid the golden egg.

Post-COVID, it technically could have happened any time, but with promotions, demotions, transfers, physical moves, etc the org has become geographically diffuse and it works.

However, the lever is being pulled as a less expensive RTO (no severance payouts) that doesn't have to be publicly announced. The email was super short notice, I can't see it being the last.

@g3 feels lifted straight from the manager talking points. A "hybrid role with mandatory 4 days" is an oxymoron. It's not surprising though that UHG can't embrace modern thinking for the future workforce. It'll cost them young talent or the best possible candidates and will certainly diminish the morale of existing employees. If this is really about culture and doing the best possible work, what message does that send to the thousands and thousands of employees who were hired as telecommute or transitioned to telecommute during covid? Are in-office employees graded higher on performance reviews? Will the countless employees who transitioned to telecommute be recalled and if not, how will that be received by those who stayed hybrid? For those who routinely came into office 3 days a week, how will reduced flexibility impact them? As with post-covid RTO, look for a lot of employees to change their status to telecommute, which will move the needle on average badge swipes, but do nothing to actually change the work environment for the better.

The document issued today applies to MN and DC only, and only those in a hybrid role. They are required to return 4 days per week. This was always the design for the hybrid role but since COVID very few people have been coming in the offices. RTO can’t be enforced in other locations because they are in process of decommissioning almost all other locations. They can’t provide the same level of security outside of those two. Those who are fully telecommuting (non-hybrid) aren’t impacted.

Makes me sick for the employees in those buildings. I've visited the campus on many occasions and it's literally people in their cubes having Teams meetings with their remote employees all day. Get ready for a lot of turnover and bad blood.

Apparently, if you are a registered telecommuter you are safe for now.

So the rto has started! Not playing that game! I know it was mentioned at last meeting but really comes main n fast. So now those of us who are slammed will be more slammed. I can't afford to loose my job. I will start working on my resume. The mental health truly does suffer with this job.

Yes, my manager already warned me. Working on my resignation statement already. I have been home for 12 years. Not going in now. Done and done.
