Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I cant take it anymore I want to quit

I think this is what upper management wants, us to quit so they dont need to pay a severance/ SUB.

I never had any problems at BNY from 2019-2023 but now its bad.

Ive lost 15lbs since January and shedding hair like a dog. Plus commuting 4 days to the office 1 hour each way will destroy me in september. They hired me for 3 days in office pre pandemic.

Sorry I just needed to vent

@qe - why would you not be employable? Just because this company doesnt have the greatest reputation like it used too doesnt mean its employees are the issue. The CEO and all the clowns below him are the problem. His salary is 23MM a year. Do you think he cares about the employees or damage he is causing this company. That negative should be on him. An american company should have american employees an CEOs sorry

Am I the only one who feels that more than half the people cannot read ? I saw a very thoughtful response from @c9+1jyh971j3 . He or she did not take sides but gave pure solid advice including a book recommendation. Very rarely do I see people take the trouble of not just saying something useful but even going to the extent of giving advice that has some lasting value. I liked this comment a lot annd bought this book too on Kindle. But if you look at how this was rated, almost half (9 out of 18 total at the time of writing) gave negative rating. Now WHO are these people who found something offensive in this comment? Is this BNy’s HR people who do not want you to read this comment ? If you agree with me , you should defeat the evil empire’s HR people by a positive upvote at least!

I’ve only been gone from that dump a couple weeks but I feel 100% different. I don’t think I realized how much that place was wearing on me.

Are you better mentally and/or physically?

I had the opposite experience when interviewing externally.

Three different places heard about what was going on at Bny and didn’t even ask any more questions as to why I was looking to leave - they completely understood.

To bank offer me a job and the third one I went pretty far in the interview process.

It took me a good six months of strategic & consistent job searching to find solid opportunities and eventually get an offer(s) so be patient and keep at it…

And if you state that you’re looking for a different or better atmosphere along with positive reasons why you’re looking to move into the role your interviewing for I think you’ll be OK.

Recruiter told me that because I worked at BNY I will not likely be considered employable by any other companies.

Might just jump the queue ahead of you. No good deed goes unpunished here. It doesn't matter if you friggin walked on water yesterday, they are ready to throw you under the bus tomorrow. It's really the peers and management you work with on projects. Not offshore either. Here. They are untouchable and just pass it down the line no matter how much cr-p they put in front of or on you. Spineless. Expecting you to ki-l yourself for their fat bonuses. Done...so Done.

The job market is awful and theyre sc--wing everyone over. Its taking people several months to even find anew job and unless you are here to get severance package what are you supposed to do to pay bills. Its the only reason im still tolerating this he-l hole

@OP your right I’m sure Upper management are trying to get as many people as they can to quit so they don’t have to announce layoffs and pay severances. The Pittsburg office isn’t even big enough to accommodate all the employees that work here! And I heard the Houston office was schedule to relocate this Past May or June and they are still in the same office. It would be nice to get an office like Offshore has!

I was layed off from BNY in Jan 2024 at 61. I just work part-time now and plan on retiring in 2027.

@op I am sorry for you are undergoing. I was laid off in late April. I got a three month package with my RSUs remaining intact. I am not going to lie and say this was the best timing to happen to me. It was sudden and unexpected. For the first week or so, I was in a stunned state .

Now, almost 7 weeks later, my health is slightly better . I am not as stressed as I was when I was employed by BNY. My anxieties are actually not there. I do want you to read a book by Dorie Clark called the Long Game. This talks of why you should not be so dependent on your company. I wish I had read this book a while back . Hope my experience will help you.

I got laid off in February after 20 years and it was the best thing ever!
So much less stress! If you can find something else, I say go for it!

Once you decide to leave it is a light at the end of the tunnel. Instead of working yourself to death, spend time searching for a new job. Good luck and good health!
