Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

West End Center in Winston-Salem

From the June 27, 2025 issue of the Winston-Salem Journal:

"Wells Fargo & Co. is shuttering its West End Center in downtown Winston-Salem, eliminating 150 jobs.

Operations in the 379,000-square-foot center at 809 West 4½ St. are expected to cease as early as Monday, employees told the Journal this week.

Another part of the center, at Fourth and Broad streets, closed last year."

Still almost 300 employees at WEC. I believe May 2026 is when most if not all will be gone. Assuming cuts in scheduled waves and the Tuesday after payday cuts will continue through next spring. WEC is on life support, but the report of its demise was irresponsible reporting by WSJ.

@qf The reporting wasn't inaccurate. It said operations would end "as early as Monday." That means it can happen anytime beginning Monday and after. We definitely have evidence it is already starting to wind down. Whether you wish it or not, it's happening.

Happy to report that WEC is open today despite the irresponsible reporting by the Winston-Salem Journal. Never trust “employees told the Journal”. Trust but verify.

WOW...I worked there in the early 90's and 2000's and left in 2018. It was a great family environment and everyone was always so friendly. It did become a ghost town but I truly hope those affected will find other open positions within the bank. Good luck to all and if not, hold on to the memories.

This is so sad. I was part of the the team moved Wachovia’s Data Center from the Phillips Building to WEC ( 809 W. 4 1/2 Street) formerly known as the old Sears Building. WEC was a family where everyone knew everyone and was a family. This changed somewhat when Wachovia and First Union merged, but not that much until the CEO changes. The current WF CEO did not come up in the ranks as previous CEO’s and in my opinion makes a big difference. The family atmosphere changed drastically. I wish all the WEC luck in landing a new job with a company that truly cares about its employees.

The one line from an apparently disgruntled employee totally false.

The NC WARN site does list that Wells Fargo filed to have 194 positions permanently eliminated from WEC (809 W 4 1/2 St) at the end of June with an effective date of the end of August.

I don't think that's everybody at WEC (even discounting the datacenter people who will be there as long as the DC).

But a commercial relator has listed both WEC and the Annex for lease.

Given that the WEC data center is most certainly open through May of 2026, I think the timing details of this article can’t be trusted.

I haven't heard anything from my management yet. I am planning on coming back in to WEC on Monday. This whole situation is pretty messed up.

There's still more than 150 assigned there that aren't on their notice period. It'll be interesting to see when things will truly shut down.

This just means 150 more in line at Bojangles.
