Longer Notice Periods = Retention Leash

They’re likely preparing to shrink cash bonuses, especially in mid- to upper-levels, and pad it with equity that vests over time, can be clawed back, and doesn’t affect cash flow. Classic corporate austerity move disguised as “ownership.”

Push Back!!!

Then you can afford to walk away with "just" $50k in cash, unless you're wildly irresponsible with your money.

30 days is manageable, but for us EDs at 60 days it becomes a little harder, however I'm willing to just cut out early once I get an offer. worst case scenario is I can't be hired back but given I am in a no growth specialty market it isn't like I would be able to find a job to come back to

VP = 30 days...guess that's 2 or 3 more paychecks. That works for me! :-)

unvested RSRs were always forfeited when someone resigns.

a clawback of previously vested will be difficult legally - reason being that those types of arrangements are for people with employment contracts - I.e. OC.

The entire notice period thing is really unenforceable. all they can do is deny you rehire.

They already did that a couple years ago for bonuses over $50k.

they could start increasing the cash to RSR ratios wouldn't surprise me if they did. Next year's RSRs will definitely have updated language regarding claw backs as it related to the new notice period requirements for VPs and above. I don't think there is much they can do on any existing RSRs.

OP might be on to something. The vast majority of the company is not bonus compensated via RSRs, so their new policy on notices is completely toothless. All they can do to you is make you ineligible for rehire. That's not a real deterant. If you had a huge lump of RSRs though...
