When I left BofA for a regional bank last year, my colleagues thought I was crazy. Twelve months later, I'm the one laughing. Not only did I get a 20% salary bump and full remote work, but the difference in culture is night and day. At BofA, I spent more time navigating bureaucracy than actually doing my job. Every single decision required 5 approvals and 3 committee reviews. Here, if I see an opportunity, I can act on it immediately. Sure, the resources aren't as lavish, but the autonomy more than makes up for it. The only downside is that you can't coast. In a smaller organization, everyone's contributions (or lack thereof) are visible. But if you actually enjoy having impact, that's not really a downside at all.

I am moving in this direction myself. Came from a regional, and looking forward to going back, and also leaving the city I am in for a lower cost of living environment. Where I am has become a total mess. I look forward to having both in my rear view mirror!
I hate all the red tape! Takes months with all the reviews, sign off and input from other teams to get anything done
